0:00 – Sycamore / Hop / Viola
4:55 – Sycamore / Serena / EX Sonia
8:38 – Sycamore / EX Diantha / Viola
I was dreading this EBE since Kalos is by far my weakest region unit-wise. And when I saw that the opponents had Acute Senses, I was wondering if Viola’s trapping was enough. Good thing that it was, and that’s thanks to the region’s strongest F2P unit – and probably one of the most busted F2P units of the entire game.
Sycamore has a lot going for him in this stage – he has both physical and special damage, Impervious to ignore the debuffs, Sp Def buffs for majority of the AOE moves, and a status cure in case the opponents get a lucky proc. While he needs some more buffs to be a better tank and/or damage-dealer, he already has a good matchup as is.
I used him in three clears here, and he has slightly different roles across each team. Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:
Team 1: Sycamore / Hop / Viola – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10244000000&e1=0&o1=750&g1=AAECAwQFBggLDRAaHB8iJCYpKw==&s1=5&id2=10136000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFExobHSAjJCUmKSstLg==&s2=5&id3=10039000000&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFBhESFRgaHB0jJCcoKSot&s3=3
A pretty reliable F2P team for this stage. While Sycamore is bulky, he also has pretty good damage thanks to Fairy Power 5 boosting Moonblast. Viola is the main tank here, trapping the opponents and debuffing their Sp Atk to soften their AOE moves. There is some RNG involved as you have to avoid status procs, but Sycamore does have his trainer move to cure the team from them once. Hop buffs most of the stats that Sycamore doesn’t, giving the team both a power boost and more bulk. He also shares around his Potions, which were very important in keeping Viola healthy.
I think you need Potion MPR to activate at least once here, as Hop uses the first two to heal himself to full health to tank the sync, and the third to heal Viola after Altaria uses Dragon Rush. I use the extra Potion here on Viola so that she can tank the sync and fire back her own, but I did have a practice run that I feel could still get the clear if Viola goes down to the second sync if I didn’t fumble in the end. After Altaria goes down, Sycamore has an easy time clearing the sides thanks to Horn Leech’s healing – and, as you see here, the healing fortunately outpaces both the enemy damage and the poison chip.
(While my Viola is at 5 stars, I don’t think it’s needed, as what’s more important is getting key MPRs from Hop to heal Viola up and boost her Defense. I do think move level 3/5 is important though as that’s when she gets First Aid 4.)
Team 2: Sycamore / Serena / EX Sonia – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10259000000&e1=0&o1=750&g1=AAECAwQFExYaHB4hIyQmKCssLQ==&s1=4&id2=10130000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFBhUWGBobHh8iLw==&s2=5&id3=10136000000&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFExobHSAjJCUmKSstLg==&s3=5
Sycamore acts as a pseudo-tank and pseudo-striker here, as he takes care of the sides with Horn Leech. Serena gets the trapper role here as she can do good damage with Overheat, and she also buys free turns with Hypnosis. Sonia gives the same buffs and heals that Hop does, as well as Defense debuffs to make Sycamore’s Horn Leeches stronger. This was crucial in taking down Toxicroak early on, as its AOE moves are much harder to deal with than Dragalge’s, especially with Sonia being weak to Ground-type moves.
(Also, while it didn’t come into play here, whenever the opponents’ Resilience activates, the condition nullification effect counts as a Status Change that goes through Acute Senses. So it is possible to get through this without Serena using Fire Spin, but I still opted to use it since I got Stationary Target 5 from her grid. That’s why I only use Hypnosis later in the fight.)
Team 3: Sycamore / EX Diantha / Viola – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10039000000&e1=0&o1=750&g1=AAECAwQFBhESFRgaHiEjJCUmJyot&s1=3&id2=10158000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFBgkMDQ4PEBEUKy0uLw==&s2=3&id3=10136000000&e3=1&o3=738&g3=AAECAwQFGhweICMkJikrLS8=&s3=5
Sycamore’s now on full tank duties here as he leaves the damaging to Diantha, who appreciates the type skill boost. Viola comes back here as her Sp Atk debuffs are even more useful for this team to activate Diantha’s Devastation. Sycamore does still get to do chip damage to the sides with Horn Leech, and of course his buffs are very helpful. This is definitely the easiest clear of the three because of the boosted AOE sync, and thankfully the stage doesn’t have any Sp Atk debuffs to mess with Diantha’s damage.
