Azelf Legendary Arena, but units don't follow their roles [Pokemon Masters EX]

I’ve done some similar videos before with the pseudo-Tech Support clear (https://youtu.be/AMjsxByVK-c) and the Strike+Tech switch-up clear (https://youtu.be/k6-sQAG0_Mc), but this video covers all the possible combos. That is, the Supports are either the damage-dealers or the disruptors, the Techs are either the damage-dealers or tanks, and the Strikers are either the disruptors or tanks.

Also, units that have utility beyond their roles are my favorite types of pairs in terms of the “meta” (as opposed to the rivals simply being my favorite characters), so that’s why you’ll see a lot of EXed units here. I do try to limit which pairs get to sync so that it’s not a major influence – at the very least I never sync with the striker since they shouldn’t be the main damage-dealers.

Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:

Team 1: EX Kiawe / Karen / EX Bianca – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=006200022900&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=4111&g0=AAECAwQFBhEUFRYYGhslJygp&v1=014900010501&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=0&t1=44114&g1=AAECAwQFERobHB8gISIkJigpKg&v2=010200051800&s2=5&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=13010602&t2=44444&g2=AAECAwQFBgcKDRUYGRwe

I don’t know why they decided to give Kiawe two multipliers but I’m all for it – Shadow Bone is a great spam move anyway. Aside from being the main damage-dealer, he also has some Tech utility here with the debuffs from Shadow Bone and Unfortuitous 4 – truly an all-rounder unit. Bianca is the main tank as she has quite a lot of defensive tiles on her grid – I unfortunately had to forego Team Hit and Heal for Impervious, but having those options is really nice for a pseudo-Support. Karen comes back from her prolonged stint last week with her flinchy Bites.

Team 2: EX Sidney / EX Elio / Spring May – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=012200073000&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44444&g0=AAECAwQFBggKDRkaGx4fICMkLw&v1=013500035900&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=4444&g1=AAECAwQFBggLDQ4QESkrLC0u&v2=012601042800&s2=1&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=41111&g2=AAECAwQFBgcICQoLERITFBUWHB0eHyUmJyg

Sidney is my latest EX promotion as I finally got him to 3/5 from my SS Morty pulls, which means I can make full use of his ridiculous sync move. Elio was my bar for pseudo-Tech supports for a very long time, and while he has a lot of competition now, his Sing and AOE debuffs are still very powerful. Spring May is pretty much a support with the wrong role – all she needed was Headbutt Aggravation 1 so she could be a pseudo-SC Lillie haha.

Team 3: EX Spring Burgh / EX Blue / EX Summer Marnie – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=002100001800&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=13010602&t0=44444&g0=AAECAwQFBgcKDQ8RHB0gISIlJik&v1=017001017500&s1=2&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=0&t1=44141&g1=AAECAwQFBgcICgsRExUWFxobHiAhJSYo&v2=024501086100&s2=3&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=13010602&t2=4444&g2=AAECAwQFBgcICRITGh0fICIjJCUnKg

After deciding not to pull for Spring Burgh last year, I suddenly saw so many funny videos of him soloing Arenas or dealing great damage with Metronome. Add in his general support utility and very good bulk, and you can guess how relieved I was when I finally got him from a daily last month haha. He takes the main damage-dealer role here, but I would be lying if I said he wasn’t helped by tank Summer Marnie and flincher Blue. Summarnie has a surprising amount of defensive buffs that actually makes her a good pseudo-tank, but it’s easily overshadowed by her even larger amount of offensive buffs

Team 4: EX Anniversary Raihan / EX Palentines Bea / Cynthia – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=025001058400&s0=3&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44111&g0=AAECAwQFBggLDRASExQVJSYoKy0&v1=025701033000&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=0&t1=44111&g1=AAECAwQFBhUYICMlJyosLS8&v2=009100044500&s2=3&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=13010602&t2=44114&g2=AAECAwQFERIUFRYXGBkcJSYoKSs

Anni Raihan + PalBea is a funny core that’s surprisingly effective in a lot of stages, as the latter completes the former’s buffs and provides flinches along the way. But I’m sure the more surprising element of this team is tank Cynthia – she has both Sand Screen and Soothing Sand on her grid, which makes her pretty good against half of Azelf’s moves. Add in the longer sand from Anni Raihan’s Sand Alert 5 and she’s a passable enough tank for this theme, especially with Raihan’s bar-skipping sync nukes.
