0:00 – Roxanne / EX Raihan / Acerola
4:15 – Lana / Nessa / Tech Gyarados
8:21 – Bonus clear: Nate / Tech Exeggutor / BP Morty
(Have another video lined up for the week so I’m double-posting today!)
Almost every Legendary Arena has a phase where the opponent queues a sure crit, sure hit AOE move, usually at the start of an HP bar. This definitely causes problems if you’re bringing frail strikers and/or eggmons, as even with defensive buffs, they’ll be vulnerable to those attacks unless they have Vigilance.
While there are a few ways to work around it – flinches or sleep for those that aren’t immune are probably the most practical, but there’s also bar skipping and critical shield – the most straightforward way to counter it is Wide Guard. Both of its users are good supports in their own right, so for most Gauntlets the question becomes where to bring them.
Latios can be disrupted so that leaves Tornadus and Regirock. I think Lana should go to Regirock as she handles physical moves better, and even if she’s weak to Rock she can tank the stage pretty reliably. There’s a case for Roxanne to be used in Tornadus’s stage since she can support several special attackers there, but I decided to go with Regirock anyway for her Defense buffs and sand synergy.
(It was also only in compiling this that I realized how similar the first two teams are hahaha. I even used the same BGM!)
Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:
Team 1: Roxanne / EX Raihan / Acerola – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=000700077000&s0=2&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44111&g0=AAECAwQFBggKDBMaGx4jJCUoKSo&v1=025700088400&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=44141&g1=AAECAwQFBgkKDREUFxkaGy4v&v2=004400047600&s2=5&l2=140&r2=3&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44111&g2=AAECAwQFExQXGRobHh8hJiks
Roxanne’s new grid has sand tiles, and with Raihan being one of the very few special strikers I’ll be bringing here it felt like the perfect combo. Acerola enables that sand and flinches Regirock to victory, though as you’ll see I’m unable to flinch some key moves like Iron Defense and Rock Slide. Still, thanks to Roxanne’s Defense buffs the team’s able to handle it.
Team 2: Lana / Nessa / Tech Gyarados – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=013040&s0=1&l0=140&r0=1&p0=0&a0=0&t0=41&n0=1&f0=0&v1=024900083400&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=4411&g1=AAECAwQFBggKDA0OHSAiLi8&v2=016000075200&s2=3&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44114&g2=AAECAwQFBggLGhwfIiYnKSor
Basically a rain and physical version of the above clear hahaha. Nessa’s Relentless takes advantage of the forced Defense debuffs of this stage and lets the team bar-skip, while Tech Gyarados provides rain and flinches. Even with MPR5 on Wide Guard RNG just wasn’t on my side here, but luckily the bar skip let me save my one flinch for the second sure crit Rock Slide.
Bonus clear: Nate / Tech Exeggutor / BP Morty – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=010340&s0=1&l0=140&r0=1&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44&n0=1&f0=0&v1=010000062800&s1=5&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=44411&g1=AAECAwQFEhMUFRgaGx8iJCUv&v2=014800042900&s2=3&l2=140&r2=4&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44411&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDhMaHB4hJCYnKCot
Wanted to include this here since as the second clear shows, one of the most common ways to prevent those Rock Slides is through disruptions. Regirock is a bit tougher on that front since it gains immunity to them after one proc from Bar 2 onwards, but I brought both Tech Exeggutor and BP Morty here so that they can prevent both with their one proc each. I used Nate as the striker since even with his Rock weakness, the sheer amount of disruptions here lets him set up his sync in peace. And since I unfortunately used both the sleep and flinch proc in Bar 2, I had his Fly to avoid the second sure crit Rock Slide.
