Let us end this ridiculousness.
[removed]
I think this isn’t the best statement that they could’ve given but with all the information already out there I also get that they’ve chosen to don’t really add anything to the discussion. The truth seems clear enough…
If they out Helena as a Liar, they’re seen as a source of her barrage of hate comments and death threats. If they say nothing, they let it froth and simmer against them. If they corroborate Jennifer Hale’s statement and let the news article speak for itself, it mystifies the truth but allows them breathing room for people to actually make a decipherable conclusion.
The best comment no comment scenario they could hope for.
Jennifer Hale is Bayonetta.
Well at least all sides have finally said something regarding this situation.
Hopefully we can all just move on from this, but knowing the internet, that’s not gonna heppen.
Anyone that can explain what happened for some out of the loop?
The original story got 30k upvotes here, has the “news” flair, the title states instead of speculates.
Some time later some actual journalist work happened and different outlets stated according to different sources that the original statement is false. These articles got 7k upvotes ~~and the OP or the mod team didn’t even bother to update the original post with it.~~ (it is now updated by the OP).
Jennifer also gave an answer which was not so worthy for drama, gave us some words of wisdom about how every story has two ends and people should not grab pitchforks in an instant. That got even less traction around 2k upvotes.
Now the other end came out with their statement which is mostly about “please be kind towards each other and stop the unnecessary hate”, this won’t get nearly any attention at all (edit: it seems it got at least some) since it does not feed the drama, most comments are about how this was not necessary, how they should have given out more and how this story is boring at this point.
We jump on drama but when it turns out that not everything that generates drama is true and not everyone wants drama we get bothered.
There is a big lesson here nearly nobody will learn, social media bandwagons will never change.
I can’t believe they didn’t leak every single document and payroll for their employees on twitter /s
Platinum is never gonna drag Hellena even more under the bus and “show receipts” to expose her.
Hellena was seeking revenge, no one that ask for sympathy, put themselves above the developer team, takes ownership of a character and instigate harassment. Her story had holes all over it, she knew people would take her side blindly, she knew what she was doing.
It’s very telling to me that when an unbiased third party of journalists (that always looked for ways to expose the mistreatment of workers in the gaming industry), asked Hellena to clarify her accusations, she said:
>“I’d quite like to put this in the [rearview] mirror and leave the whole bloody franchise behind,” she told VGC. “So I think I’ll just let my videos stand. I spoke the truth.”
If someone accuse you of lying, you defend yourself. If you walk away and basically says “I know my truth”, it’s because you have something to hide.
Schreier is very sensitive to workers right and would NEVER side with the company without proper information, so I tend to believe him.
15K is not 4K, asking for a “six figures” price and getting rejected is natural…and I hated that she “indirectly” lashed out at her colleague Hale, you don’t own Bayonetta, you signed a contract giving PG property of your work. Period.
Because of her (reported) lies, a lot of people, who were just doing their work, got harassed. She should have never mentioned Hale and publicly stated that she had no “right to sign merchandise”…I think it was plain disrespectful.
Calling for a boycott because your negotiations went bad.. It means harming all QA testers, developers, other VAs too.
So…everyone can choose how to view the issue in the end now that we have more info.
PG/nintendo will probably deal with this privately after all. A breach of NDA, a call for boycott and lies, that’s not going to end there.
It’s pretty upsetting to me to know people who bandwagoned behind her story will probably not learn a single lesson about waiting for a retort when any kind of accusation is thrown out there, and that there are no downsides for drama peddlers like YouTubers to spread stuff like this because they are not held to any standards of having to post retractions or updates.
Hale never deserved any of the hate that’s been directed at her. She just did her job. And as reports have shown Taylor really tried to undersell what she was ACTUALLY offered, and whether she felt like that was sufficient or not gives her no right to make claims that Hale “isn’t Bayonetta” and that she has “no right to sign merchandise”. Hale is Bayonetta now and she has every right to character. The most disturbing thing to me though is the fact that Taylor had the audacity throw a temper tantrum and call for a flat out boycott of the game just because she didn’t get her way. That completely discounts the dozens of others who put in hundreds of hours of work on this game. People boycotting the game wouldn’t just be her getting revenge on Platinum Games, it would be saying a giant “fuck you” to every single other individual that worked on this game and that’s disgusting to me. I hope the game still succeeds and that this whole saga hasn’t cast a shadow over what I’m sure a lot of people were proud to be a part of cause they worked their assess off to make this game happen.
I was going to play the game regardless of anything anybody said. I will do the same after the drama too. I bought a switch for Bayonetta 2 and the promise of Bayonetta 3. Nothing will change that.
Great, now maybe people can go back to minding their own business.
I don’t know which one is lying or telling truth.
But Taylor demeaning Hale was really uncalled for.
Good one. Next time, I hope people will learn to wait a bit for the facts before falling for somebody’s tears on social media.
I wasn’t planning to purchase Bayonetta 3 at full price, but I put in a pre-order because I want to support the franchise and felt this might hurt it.
I hope Taylor realizes how much damage she has done to her colleagues. Using a sympathetic stance like fair pay for VA’s for petty revenge is disgusting. I feel sick that i believed her. Now every time a VA speaks openly about their payment issues there will be this cloud of doubt around it. “What if it’s another Bayonetta situation?”
Atleast Taylor seems to have burned every bridge in the industry. I wonder if she’ll ever get a VA job again…
Oh wow looks who’s the one being professional and not trying to ruin other people’s career.
Good on them taking their distance from Hellenna by not mentioning her, she pretty much killed her own career as a voice actor for future project with this stunt.
Even before more information came out I found Taylor’s statements to be manipulative, selfish, unemphatic populous appeals to emotion lacking critical thinking.
Lots of discourse was spent on Platinum Games and Nintendo being evil corps – the fat cats. Taylor wasn’t negotiating with suits, she was negotiating with voice work employees or contractors who had a budget to follow. All evidence from Platinum Games, Hale, and reporting are that those employees were conscientious to Taylor and Hale. Previews seem to be positive, I hope they are all proud of their artistic work!
I fully expect the only person to boycott based on this will be Helena herself.
I have to remind myself that Japanese companies are really litigious and are quite careful about making mistakes as to not lose too much face. I am confident that Platinum Games most likely went with a very good law firm that has an international presence to present their offer to Helena. Initially during this entire debacle, I originally thought her agent and the law firm engaged in the talent confirmation process should have been scrutinized.
Either that or Helena can’t read the offer letter correctly, got hissy when they offered $4,000 “only” in her belief, and started acting out like a huffy Karen.
She really has no more places to run after being caught out with her lie. I feel bad for her as she has jeopardized her own career in a space that is very competitive. I can’t imagine going to auditions and casting directors (and the voice directors present in that same room) know about you and they are not good things.
In parallel, let’s talk about Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and a specific voice actor of theirs.
>!For them to get back Jenna Coleman, a now very busy actress after Doctor Who, Victoria, and The Sandman, to do her old role of Melia, that’s quite remarkable. I am sure Monolith Games’ localization department, since they were British, just went through their normal procedures and followed Equity (one of few acting unions) hiring rules, and booked her. Quite sure she got a cool £1,000 for her trouble, and that’s a lowball number I imagine. If we really followed the rules, she should be getting £17 an hour. She was not being hard to deal with or was she asking for more like a diva… she just took it and went with the flow like a normal actor.<
Sucks that she threw Jennifer Hale under the bus
Lol the bandwagon cope in the twitter replies are something
I honestly do not care about any of this as long as its fun to play
I mean she did it to herself; exposed herself in an interview with Nintendo Players UK, threw Jennifer Hale under the bus and was exposed for lying and not only that, she really wanted sto get away from something that she herself started!? She sealed her fate.
Either way, I still would’ve bought it. I ain’t boycotting shit just cuz someone who earns more than me but wanted more, decided to be petty. I respect VAs and all but $4000 is quite a lot especially for doing 4 hour sessions for 4 days or so.
I rather trust a company than a individual who purposely wait the game release with the goal of pushing people in boycotting the game, shit-talking another VA in a unprofessional way out of spite , directing hate against her, and then bringing up the charity topic in the same video as a way to influence gullible Twitter folks.
