I still can’t believe the Switch version only runs at 720p docked and 540p portable without any anti-aliasing.

  2. Pickled_Smurf

Really hoping Persona 4 Golden runs well in handheld mode. Playing it on Vita is still in my top 3 gaming experiences of all time. Can’t wait to meet those characters again. Nanako! Teddy! My 4 girlfriends!

Disappointed at the resolution, I’m assuming it’s a casualty from the devs not being as efficient with resources for other platforms (given that the other platforms have plenty to spare).

It’s not horrible, but I can’t help but feel that 720p handheld was achievable if they really worked for it.

Shame 3D visuals resolution takes a hit, at least UI resolution is native resolution. I was looking forward to picking this up this holiday season, but not sure how bad 540p will look on the bigger OLED screen in person. It being a locked 30fps makes me think that there’s some potential overhead for higher resolution. Hopefully we get a patch down the line from Atlus🙏

Hacked Switch runs it at crystal clear 720p / 60FPS with drag and drop mods (p5rcbt + max resolution mod), including modmenu (modmenuspeedrun). Just give it another month for the mod scene to solidify more.

I have zero complaints on how it runs on my Pokémon oled switch!

XCloud sucks as I can’t just resume the game and must wait for when I can save my progress first. Also, when someone calls or sms my phone, a fat chance my connection breaks. The worst part of it all are those damn black borders!😂

No more cloud gaming on my 13 pro max! I am switching to the Nintendo switch full time!!

Sure the ps5 or Xbox series plays these better, but playing turn based jrpg is always best, handheld❤️

I played Persona 1, 3 and 4 in the past, and 5 Royal does not impress me very much gameplay – and concept-wise, to be honest. Also the characters are not very relatable for me – maybe I am getting old, though.

  8. This bums me out a bit. With the larger OLED screen, a sharper image is appreciated.

That said, glad to hear the OLED helps with all the blacks.

Won’t run out and get it but will be glad to have it for Xmas.

Frankly it does not look very good on Switch which I why I got it on Steam and play it on my Steam Deck at 1080p everything maxed at 60 fps or more!

I picked this up last week but I’ve been finishing up Digimon Survive. Once I finish the Truthful Route, I’ll jump into Royal.

Don’t care at all about the naysayers, I got this day one and I’m having a blast! Don’t have a PS5, don’t have a PC, I’ve been the meme “persona 5 fans who haven’t played the game” and FINALLY I’M PLAYING IT! I’ve put in so many hours already, absolutely blown away that I haven’t encountered any stuttering or lag. Such a fantastic game

  12. whatnowwproductions

Should have been 720p 30 undocked.

  13. Edna_with_a_katana

All things considered I’m impressed the game can run on the switch as well as it does

  14. SleesWaifus

Been playing for 60 hours so far. No complaints about performance or resolution. I wish loading times were slightly faster but otherwise great.

Wait there is one complaint. Fire emblem three hopes also has this complaint. Compressed JP audio. There’s a noticeable hiss on s sounds. Let us download less compressed audio from the eshop as free dlc?

I don’t really notice those resolution problems most of the time. It’s a very, very acceptable compromise for its portability. Being able to play P5R (and P4G + P3P soon) anywhere is a godsend.

  16. dimazzagung48

I was playing vanilla P5 on PS3, and now playing P5R on docked switch and certainly see the improvement, 720p ps3 vs 810p docked switch is an already improvement, and newer texture asset from P5R help the game look much better than PS3, also switch has no issue on framedrop and screen tearing unlike PS3, also loading time is significantly faster than PS3. All good for me, but if dev could make it run 1080p docked, i will be more happy

  17. KurtKokaina

Tried this game, really wanted to like it. Its all talk barely any action.

  18. Sussyimposter14

Despite it being 810p I literally can barley tell the difference between royal switch and ps4. Tbf I had a 1080p LED when I played royal on ps4 and using 4k Qled for switch version so maybe thats where it comes from. Handheld is a little disappointing but oh well Ive played this game 3 times i dont care that much

  19. megasean3000

Really hoping for good things for Persona 3. I already got Persona 4 for Vita and Persona 5 Royal for PS4, so having 3 on Switch will be a good way to play…considering Portable is in the title.

You guys downvoting people saying the Switch is outdated are absolutely wild. The hardware is so outdated that most flagship phones function better.

This game looks absolutely fucking atrocious in handheld on the Switch. I quite honestly regret buying it on Switch and should have gone with the PC version. Story and gameplay are obviously great but the Switch hardware is really starting to show its age – I’m playing on the OLED and it still looks bad unless I’m playing in docked on my TV

  21. Oof thanks, I felt like I had been taking crazy pills. I bought this soon after release, since reviews were so positive, and was honestly really disappointed by how blurry the game looks on handheld mode, but nobody was talking about it.

You get used to it, and the OLED screen certainly helps, but man… They could’ve done better. It’s a bit of a disappointing port, but it’s still an incredibly good game.

  22. dekuweku

TLDR. 30 fps locked on Switch. The biggest nitpick is the resolution on Switch which they felt Atlus could have done better with.

But looks like a good port and they prioritized performance.

  23. Really enjoying the game on PC and it’s the most fun I’ve had on a single player RPG in a fair bit.

My only real complaint is a lack of support for my monitors resolution, 3440×1440… But that kind of comes with the territory of console > PC ports (usually); not a deal breaker for me.

  24. Actually, i tried both on switch and pc game pass. Then……I uninstalled it on my PC. The way it renders in switch makes it looks more like anime and PC renders it like an outdated graphic. This game deserves to be carried around, enjoy a short burst of playthrough instead of needing to sit in front of a monitor.

  25. Builder_liz

Been waiting for a switch version I’m happy

  26. vovin777

Even with the review I opted to get it on Switch. I also tried it on PC with Gamepass. It just feels far better to play on a handheld

  27. popcrnshower

I didn’t think it could be pulled off but I’m glad to be wrong. The Persona 5 Royale switch port it’s so clean, feels right at home on handheld also.

  28. barbietattoo

Just play the damn game if you want a portable P5 Royal. Sure, 720/540 docked/handheld is pretty poor, but for a text heavy, cutscene driven game…. Cmon. It’s perfectly fine.

  29. Throwaway753045

I already beat the game in about a week and a half and it ran perfectly through all 100+ hours. Excellent port. Could it have looked better and run at 60 fps? Sure it COULD have been better, but it was consistent
