Yep Best Buy just showed the $70 price. Hopefully my Amazon order does not get canceled

  2. ZelderTheElder

The last bastion of 60 dollar AAA gaming falls!

  3. theguz4l

Voucher eligible though. Not bad if you can find a second game to grab.

  4. JumboMcNasty

Best Buy charged me the whole $60 months ago – I hope they honor it.

  5. capsuleofparrots

70 bucks and the games with digital titles hardly ever seeing a sale. That’s rough

  6. codiuscube

When can we preorder collectors edition?

  7. worth noting: even tho it’s $70, it is still marked as voucher eligible, so that $100 2-voucher pack just become much more valuable if they keep it at that price and continue with $70 releases

(but seriously, nintendo if you want to charge that much for your games, release a switch hardware update so we don’t have to pray to the framerate gods on every release. i still think it’s absurd – everyone else is ONLY charging $70 for new-gen versions, not last gen)

That special edition is about as egregiously overpriced as the Elden Ring CE. It’s hard, but I think I’ll pass and keep my $60 preorder.

  9. Graymarth

What a big old fuck you from them to us. There is literally no fucking reason for this to be $70 bucks.

  10. Kind of a bummer they couldn’t at least wait until Switch 2 to start doing this.

And also pretty grimey in a smart way of Nintendo to do it to TotK first. Of all the games to introduce a $70 price tag, this is definitely the one that’ll be the easiest to get away with with minimal backlash.

  11. pierrekrahn

    $69.99USD + tax is over $100CAD.

$129.99USD + tax is just shy of $200CAD. Big yikes!

  12. tendeuchen

Next gen prices for a last gen game. That’s just fantastic. I’ll wait (unless I can score a CE).

  13. Pakmanjosh

The whole reason game prices were raised to $70 is because developers put in more effort and time to create modern games that utilize the power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Nintendo always releases polished games but charging $70 for a Zelda game that’s going to reuse the same map as BOTW and be on a six year old console seems like jumping the bandwagon while completely missing the point.

  14. xxMINDxGAMExx

Rather disrespectful to the consumers to just have the price increase come out of nowhere. Unreal.

  15. AnActualSadTaco

Makes the vouchers definitely more worthwhile if $70 is the new norm.

  16. KorguChideh

Next gen price on a 6 year old and under powered console. Thanks I hate it.

E: death, taxes and Nintendo apologists. Never change r/NintendoSwitch

Think I’ll wait to see how people feel after the hype dies down on this one. We’ve seen four minutes total of gameplay from a reused asset sequel that’s been in development for 6 years. If this was anybody but Nintendo, we’d be screaming red flags. It’ll get 10/10 reviews because it’s Zelda and even Skyward Sword got them, but it’ll be interesting to see the conversation about TotK in October

60 dollars more for a steelbook, a mini art book, a poster and 4 pins? LMAO

    They can keep it

  19. My hype for this game is pretty non existent and I’m a huge Zelda fan. I’m hoping for a surprise, but nothing they’ve shown has looked good.

  20. The collector’s looks like a downgrade, in botw we had the cool sword figure, now it’s 4 pins and a steelbook

  21. OmegaNine

You know, for all those “next gen” textures and animations they have to put in.

  22. S1rTerra

I’m hoping this is just Nintendo testing the waters a bit. People will spend full price for un-finished games, so make them pay extra for potential GOTY.

  23. ARhollow

70 bucks for a game that’s using the same assets and enemies from the first game. I don’t really care about a 70 bucks tag but you got to justify the price. Seems like Nintendo is just hopping on the bandwagon because they know this game is going to sell regardless.

  24. yummycrabz

Not cool, not cool at all.

I know that PS and Xbox are doing that but let’s be real, it’s not comparable.

    1) b/c for the most part, up until now, you were also getting 2 copies of the game for that price, the ps4 and ps5 versions

    2) you’re actually seeing and feeling the next-gen experience (this is ESPECIALLY true for Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, which is an incredible experience btw. Outstanding game)

    Edit:

    3) b/c other platforms put actual deals out. Speaking of Rift Apart; I wanted to get that game so bad as early as 2020. I kept waiting on a deal and eventually got it like 4 months ago for $24.

I’d have to suck off a leprechaun just for him to flip a coin to decide if he’ll run a sale on a Nintendo 1st party title at $45

  25. theytookallusernames

Doing this in the same console generation and not making it standard pricing for the console’s successor is such a Nintendo moment that I don’t even know where to start

  26. FrostyFlamingo7050

Setting aside this being a bummer as a game consumer, really interesting to see how this will unfold

Plenty of arguments which are valid saying that games used to cost a lot more if you account for inflation. On the other hand, there’s now a much broader and seemingly ever-growing base of customers for video games than there was previously. So even if the cost is effectively lower now than it was previously, games are being bought at a much greater volume which offsets that

So curious if this will cut into the sales numbers/dissuade consumers from purchasing a greater volume of games

I always assumed video game companies maintaining the $60 price tag was a combination of
    1. Figuring that a price increase would overall make them less money because fewer people would buy it
    2. Video game companies playing a game of chicken with each other, no company wanting to be the one to raise their price first, and potentially have customers swarm to another game that’s still priced at $60 or lower/or just dealing with customer backlash

So in that sense it makes sense Nintendo is the first company to do this outright, and it makes sense to do it with this game in particular; I expect we’ll see a lot of other companies follow suit

Gotta say though, if they’re taking an fresh look at how they price games, I would prefer if they started offering a cheaper price for the digital version as opposed to the physical

  27. jardex22

I’m fine with this. While the price of everything else went up over the last decade, games have locked in at a steady $60. While $70 is a big jump, it’ll also likely be the steady price for the next decade. It was bound to happen eventually. If you don’t like it, vote with your wallet and game time spent.

EDIT: Nintendo is also calling for a 10% bump to their employee’s [wages](https://www.reuters.com/technology/nintendo-trims-annual-profit-outlook-firmer-yen-2023-02-07/).

  28. nateno80

Well I didn’t want to play skyrim Zelda skin with survival mechanics anyways.

Infact I hate the 70$ price of a game I probably wasn’t going to play anyways so much, I’ll probably stop buying first party Nintendo games altogether.

And pirate Bay is still as accessible as it ever was.

  29. Tsmitty81

The switch is last gen hardware. Why do we have to pay 70 dollars for a game on older hardware.

  30. NickieBoy97

Notice how everything else Nintendo is putting out this year is $59.99 (or lower for a few titles). They know they can get away with it for Zelda, people will buy it regardless.

I’m a little skeptical honestly. The marketing has been very silent on the game. It’s releasing in a few months and we still don’t know very much about the game other than a few clips. If you want to increase the price at least show me why I should pay $10 more. Also seems odd they’re wanting a price increase but reused many assets from Breath Of the Wild. Seems very much like they know it will sell fantastic on the name alone. We’ll see how the final game turns out.

  31. What a crock of shit. The reason games bumped up to $70 was due to the next generation of consoles. Now Nintendo gets to raise their price without doing shit and delivering their “next gen” hardware. Fuck them and anyone who supports this $70 trash.

  32. Cali2Indy

I’ll just get the voucher and purchase this plus a $60 dollar title. Not a bad deal

  33. spaceman817

The CE is extremely disappointing. The only thing that would make me jump on that is if it had a gold cartridge.

  34. grandpas-arthritis

I’m not paying all that for a switch game.

  35. vaikunth1991

Yea 70$ for a game that’s gonna run in 30fps 540p no fucking thanks. Atleast other consoles have features like 4k, raytracing, 60fps mode choice to justify price increasing,
