The best Ottawa Pokemon Go Youtuber….is Poke Daxi but I am here too
Pokemon Go announced their season 10: Rising Heroes. This coincides with the new season of GO Battle League. There are no move updates of consequence. Learn how to win go battle league and hit legend with this channel.
This week is ultra league and psychic cup. Psychic cup is a 1500CP Great League format with only psychic pokemon. Ultra league is a 2500CP league with legendary and XL pokemon. I have videos going over the top teams, best teams, and rankings for both.
Back to ultra league and going to pump out a bunch of ultra league teams to gain some ELO. In this one I look at the very underrated obstagoon which has some great play with all the psychic, ghost, steel in this meta. Paired with pidgeot and tapu fini.

Skill and teambuilding mean nothing if the algo just hardcounters you every time. I've got to legend before so not making excuses, the game decides when you win – period.
Is a non 100 iv Pidgeot worth? I Can only get mine to like level 45 UL is the most unobtainable league
I like pidgeot shadow snorlax and swamper, they always swap into giratina and and they won't shield a brave bird and u can farm down with snorlax
Just came out of my ultra games with Obstructagoon spanking all those Giratinas in the mix
I've been running Obstruct Goon lead with double ghost Trev and Jelli in the back. Worked well at first with lots of 4-1s and a 5-0 yesterday but today just 1-4, 1-4, 1-4. Either everyone has started countering ghosts or the algorithm has come after me 😞 Kept facing Tapu lead with 1 of either pidgeot, umbreon or scrafty in the back
I agree goon is quite bulky but I think the reason the stunfisk quake didn't even do half health is also because it's a defence weighted pokemon. EQ from a swampert on going hurts a lot more – still not fatal but more like 60-65% damage if I remember rightly.
I feel like on the subject of time investment what you said later about learning match ups and properly studying teams is really what makes the difference more than battles played. Last season I played over 1600 battles but capped out at 2863 before then dropping a bit at the very end because I just don't have the time to study pvpoke and I've noticed the misplays I do make are quite often from not knowing whether the nuke move is enough to KO and going for the double low energy move instead and not reaching the second, or vise versa going for the nuke when I need the double. Also losing track of energy is something I struggle with a lot of the time.
i love obstagoon! i think he's cool.
My best Tapu is 11/13/12 🙂 Will that work similar as yours, noticed that your Tapu isnt great either. Thanks for upload, interesting as always
Lucky 15/15/12 pidgeot or hundo non lucky pidgeot to max out?
I hear what you’re saying and today is my last day battling. I went from loving it to hating it and it’s really the only reason I still play PoGo.
The so-called Algorithm is nothing more than an excuse used by a minority of the player base that plays GBL! Caleb Peng, said best on one of his videos! The more wins you get you will pare with someone that has equal amount or better of wins… your skills as a player which means team building, Fast Move counting, Team recognition, Energy Management, win lead or switch are some of the things that will be taking into consideration on winning or losing a game! But as we all know no team is perfect am watching youtube videos of players just showing wins that's not help educated the rest about this! Seen it am talking about it is not the same as experienced oneself as a player!
Some Youtubers that really likes this Algorithm blaming thing had a lot am the comments left on their channel from others… am that says a lot of this blaming thing that is going! In the end either you learn and get better or just play something else!
Am stop Baiting and do More Brave Birds! LOL
On pvpoke, when you swap from great league to ultra league meta opponents, it keeps your pokemon at the current CP level. So you're comparing 1500CP slowbro against the ultra league
Just build a second pidgeot. Ez
Swampert dnite and obstagoon is a good team I use
I've been doing well with scrafty tentacruel jellicent
I recently started to lean more against the algorithm existing but I do see why it would be beneficial for Niantic to have one.
For me, I haven't invested the dust and time into really making a push past veteran and realize that if I want to hit legend I'll need to make some decisions on mons for GL, UL, maybe ML (I have hardly any of the meta mons powered up).
Now if you think about the "why" for an algorithm I think there's merit as making legend harder to obtain gives it more prestige among the player base. It can also influence how players spend money in game to grind for the dust/candies needed to build powerful pokes. I build algorithms as part of my profession and could see how they could leverage an API to essentially look up the meta and have weighted scores for how your pokemon would fair against an opponent. It definitely makes business sense for Niantic to be tracking analytic trends between each players spend and their GBL performance as I bet there is a rather high correlation.
Just my thoughts, keep up the good work Dan.
I played for two years. Couldn't hit legend once. Still bummed about that, even though I no longer play.
I don't think poke would agree that there is no algorithm all his losses are because of the algorithm aren't they?
One piece of advice, I liked the GL video on Pokémon to build, and helped me prioritize certain mons. Any chance you can add a summary at the end for the UL video. Helpful to see a summary at the end if possible. Keep up the great work.
GGs this morning. I played you around 8:37 am et. (Ashieftz)
To add to your commentary I hit Legend solely playing UL and hit it last season in just over 500 games.
Note: Been using the same team for now 8 seasons to hit Legend. Goon w obs is superior to ns/cc, FYI. Makes an already bulky Pokémon to near elite bulk.
Please continue offering options/alternates for your team compositions. I don't have Tapu Fini or UL Pidgeot.
Who could re place Tapu in this team?
The way to play the wing attack pidgeot into swampert is shield the first hydro cannon and then throw a feather dance and then you can opt not to shield and throw the feather dance after that you can farm down
Talon flame would give you better matchups against regi and Galv
Eh, easily dealt with tbh
I play Obstagoon, with Confusion Cresselia and either Charizard or Amaroth in the back, It depending on the meta at the elo. On higher Ace Amfaroth is better with more flyers and more Tapufinis.
Wild to me that they don't respect the Brave Bird in the lead I always shield because I'm thinking they're going to BB and switch
👍👍👍
Algorithm talk is always interesting to me because why would they go to the trouble of coding something that looks at your team when Elo based matchmaking already does the supposed algorithm's job of keeping winrate at roughly 50% (except at the very low and very high ends).
Goon has been one of my UL staples since season one and one of the best GBL investments I’ve made. It can be hard punished by charmers and fighters but it can also just sweep teams that aren’t ready for it
So, I'm a pretty casual player (only made Ace with max ELO of ~2250 last season). That said, I've had pretty surprising success with the following team in Ultra League:
– Goodra (Dragon Breath/ Power Whip/ Muddy Water)
-Gyarados (Waterfall/ Crunch/ Aqua Tail)
-Golisopod (Shadow Claw/ Aerial Ace/ Aqua Jet)
I know, it's a lot of water coverage. Two reasons: 1) I kept getting savaged by back end Talonflame and Charizard; 2) Muddy Water is really more to draw out shields/debuff with my lead, since literally no one runs Goodra. And if you do catch a fire on the front end, you can catch them off guard. Same with a Swampert, who never see that Power Whip coming. Also, the tankiness of Goodra and Golisopod are very legit. Shadow Claw Golisopod wrecks Shadow Dragon boy, as well as the random Mewtwo I run into. And the Aerial Ace catches their fighters and grass types off guard, also. I know it's not some master-level banger of a team, but but Goodra and Golisopod get a wild amount of attacks through because no one knows what to expect from them. Idk, might be worth playing around with if you're feeling spicy 🤙
It's difficult to say there's no algorithm. In a way I believe there is. Otherwise how would the rating not match you with someone within the ELO range? As a newer GBL player if I at least obtain Ace I'm content. You pick all the META pkmn and then you get countered almost everywhere and matched up against Legend players. You pick the non META and you may have a chance to not deal with Legend/Expert players. I don't blame anyone if they choose not to play GBL as I believe only 1% of trainers will ever reach Legend rank. <98% of all my fellow trainers choose not to play GBL. With the high expensive costs you put into GBL I don't think it's worth it. The rewards are not great although Master League has been improved, the others not really. Even worst are these cups as they're not worth playing in unless you wanna face Legend players who dominate these cups by the way = ELO drop.
I used pidge last season and learned never not bb on lead
Played the battles, got the mons for teams, Get tips from content creators (ty). Never got past Veteran. Why? Because I don't put the effort in to learn the match ups (never played the main series games) and cannot get enthusiastic about counts & optimal.timing. Is that skill or learning by wrote? Still love battling & LOVE the dust & the rewards.
You can always build another Pidgeot with gust. It's a very accessible mon if u have the dust. Cheers. Gust will be useful for u as a mega in raids
Great speech on the algorthim and GBL in general. I agree 100%. When I first started, I actually believe there was an algorithm, and set out to prove it by recording every one of my leads for a season, because I swear I was getting hard countered 80% of the time. In the end, when I looked at the numbers- it turns out I only lost lead 60% of the time, if even that high. After that I decided instead of complaining, I'd focus on my skills and getting better mons. Since then, I've reached Legends mulitple times. The only thing stopping me now is what you said- time. I just don't have time to do more than 2 sets per day.
There is obviously no algorithm but sometimes I like to pretend there is so I can justify why I can never hit legend 🙂
I have a 2 goons
1st is high attack with cross chop
2nd one is a rank 90 with obstruct.
Do you think use the high bulk one and remove obstruct ?
I run an obstagoon team that makes no sense and it's the only one I climbed with. Went to 2900 last season and only climbed in UL. It's very strong against certain matchup and very bad against others.
Poke ak needs to take some advice from you…
For me algorithm is just a meme to blow off some steam lol. But sometimes it does feel like that, humans tend to see patterns where there aren't in small samplesizes.
Thoughts on obstructagoon?
Shadow Gliscor shores up the team very nicely. Runerigus could also work.
