Holy mother of god, so epic. This is why I love gaming and geeks. People with passion for something. Great work

  2. teh_pwn_ranger

It’s really one of the dumbest videos Jirard has ever made. Both systems are trivial to jailbreak and once a company refuses to sell you something there’s no moral quandary to wrestle with in regards to just pirating it.

  3. xariznightmare2908

No, he did not 100% the eshop. Unless he specifically said he bought “Every WiiU and 3DS games from the US eshop”, then he still missed out on the JP and EU eshop which have exclusives games not on US eshop.

  4. Simon_787

This is incredibly cool, but how’s this preservation? Did I miss something here?

Some guys owning all these games on **encrypted SD cards** isn’t gonna help anyone who wants or needs the games in the future.

edit: I did miss something. In the end he says he donated the consoles to the video game history foundation. I’m guessing that they’re gonna take care of backing this stuff up in some way, which is where the actual preservation would come into play. Pretty dope.

  5. So reddit is putting the money sign after the number and putting the percentage sign before the number now? This place has everything backwards.

  6. Torque-A

So he spent more than $20,000 rewarding Nintendo for a choice they made to hamper others?

  7. GioRet65

This episode was insane. I can’t imagine the financial chaos he put himself through just to get this done. What I don’t understand is if he bought every single game digitally or just the ones he did not own. Hopefully his actions can lead to preservation of these games. When the Wii eshop dropped, a lot of game support just disappeared. I was unable to redownload my SNES and N64 games from the Wii eshop.

  8. A_Sharknado

Why the fuck is the percent sign on the left?

  9. BriannaMckinley2442

Did not expect this comment section to be so negative

Truly the best bearded gamer in the industry.

  11. There is a bizarre amount of weirdly strong opinions in this thread

  12. iammaxhailme

I love his content for the most part but this is one of the dumbest wastes of money I’ve ever seen out of gaming youtube

  13. wad11656

Except like he said in the video, he missed out on a ton of delisted games. And (nearly) everything he downloaded is probably already preserved in the piracy community.

He says he downloaded it all for the sake preservation… But other than packaging the software as cia files and disperse through piracy, how do you plan on backing up the games? Packaging them as piratable CIA’s is the only way to preserve them in a meaningful way

That whole video seemed so pointless to me in light of what the piracy “community” has already backed up

    *Guy buys something*

Random Redditor: “You should have stole it!”

  15. sirfannypack

I find it really hard to go back to the 3ds compared to other old handhelds because of the screen being so awful.

  16. opensourcer

can his accountant write it off as business expenses?

  17. This is so fucking dumb

All of these games are preserved already. Just the dude from the preservation society is anal about “authenticity” as if all the games haven’t been ripped from authentic hardware already…

Jirard literally just rewarded nintendo with $20k for their dumb decisions, getting nothing out of it that we didn’t already have

And here people are lapping it up lmfao

  18. Zealousideal_Car_532

Man said “fuck you nintendo switch online, I OWN my games”

  19. TheMysticBard

Must be nice to have that kind of money

  20. LauraLob0

I have posted this exact comment on this video and i’ll repeat it here:

    Pro-capitalist anti-piracy preservationism isn’t preservationism.

Buying a shitload of games and giving them to an organization that yeah, will preserve them, but isn’t legally allowed to distribute them in any shape or form isn’t preservationism, if nobody can play it, is there really a point to a game being preserved?

“Oh, they’re videogame history”, yeah, history virtually no one has access to.

Making a video about your struggle to buy all these games so they wouldn’t be lost without asking the following three questions is just frankly destructive:

1 – Why should it be your or literally anyone’s responsability to preserve all these games, when that really should’ve been Nintendo’s responsability all along?

2 – Why can’t people have access to games that not only aren’t available legally in any way, shape or form, but also whose illegal online preservation through piracy is continuosly boycotted by AAA publishers?

3 – Who benefits the most from the lack of game preservation?

  21. A month from now, they find out all the Wii U games are gone due to a faulty NAND chip.

  22. Tiny_Tim1956

Who throws away that kind of money at a corporation? I don’t care how rich you are and how much this video is going to make, this is a crime. It’s the opposite of praxis for game preservation, you are actively rewarding a corporation for not preserving their games as they could/should. At this point it’s better to just buy nintendo stocks or something.

  23. Dazzerrens

Kinda feels more like he rewarded Nintendo for shutting down the shop tbh

  24. breichart

Can he please yell louder? I can’t seem to hear him.

  25. Plane_Towel8490

This thread is a prime example of why most redditors are absolute garbage.

  26. Realignment33

This is pretty cool. I wonder if someone’s done the same for the other régions since 3ds is region locked? Would suck to lose all of the cool japanese 3ds exclusives

  27. FragMeNot

Lol… everyone is mad over someone spend 20k on video games and think it’s a waste. Yet we got WhistlinDiesel taking a Tesla and putting 10 foot buggy tires on it and doing shit…y’all butthurt fuckers suck. Go white knight grass.

  28. xNinja-Jordanx

Maybe I’m just a cynic, but people rushing to spend money on 3DS and Wii U stuff before the store closes kinda feels like rewarding Nintendo for being shitty? Like, whenever they remaster old games and re-sell them (or when they offer all of 2 games on their NSO services) people cheer and games press writes glowing articles about it, and then we’re all surprised when they inevitably shut down their storefronts and restrict game preservation.

Like, why spend any money on GB Games on the 3DS when they’ll eventually bring them to the NSO? And people will cheer and write glowing articles when it finally gets Pokemon Silver and no lessons will be learned.
