So this new edition is leaning way hard into Saturday Morning Cartoon aesthetics.
On one hand, this feels like a little bit of a weird choice just because this remake is primarily for old people right? If you liked these games on the gameboy advance you’re in your 30’s. And if you’re a kid new to the franchise I don’t necessarily see this tearing you away from roblox and fortnight.
On the other hand, it’s not like I can argue that this interpretation is somehow untrue to the original products. Those are some Saturday Morning Cartoon-ass scripts. The Red nation, the green nation, the blue nation, and the yellow nation gotta team up and fight the dastardly but questionably motivated black hole nation.
This kinda reminds me of Fire Emblem engage. That’s another 2023 Nintendo game that on one hand has the aesthetics and dialogue of a game for children, but is built around the central mechanic of summoning retro Fire Emblem characters from across 25 years of RPGs. So they’ve done this sort of weird kids aesthetic but gameplay for old people thing before. And for what it’s worth, FE Engage turned out super good!

As someone who loved the original I am not much into the new designs but I will buy it, not on day one though, 60 is too much in my opinion. When I’ll find it for 40 sure. I like the new possibility to create your own map.
