I mean the Wii U ran Call of Duty
skunkhead91
It can at least run COD Mobile. Easy

Loving how all the drama from this acquisition lol. Sony getting dunked on for anti-market practices with Japanese games. Activision board members publicly freaking out over not getting their pay days. Nintendo getting randomly dunked on for no reason. I live for this shit.

Breaking: CMA just confirmed Nintendo aren’t going to release a new console for at least 10 years. /s
BardOfSpoons
They refute the claim it can run a version of COD “similar to those in Xbox and PlayStation”.
I’d agree. On the file size front alone, by the time Activision cuts down their 250gb game to fit (mostly) on a cart/the switch’s internal storage, you’ll end up with a game that looks and runs very different than its console counterparts. The CMA isn’t even claiming that COD or a COD-like game couldn’t get a quality port on switch, just that there is no evidence that Activision would actually be able to pull it off.
PrinnyWantsSardines
It can probably run a call of duty slideshow
POWRranger
They’ll stream with a a cloud version like some other games on the Switch

I’ve never played COD, but seems like if you can get DOOM Eternal or Witcher 3 running on a Switch, then why not COD (assuming 20-30 FPS, dynamic resolution down to 360p)? Sure, it’s be probably be more expensive to develop than it’s worth, and I would not be interested, but doesn’t seem impossible to do.

My biggest hope is that no one wins this legal battle and everyone loses.

That 10 year deal didn’t exactly say JUST the Switch though, no?
Wiggyg
I mean I’d love Call of Duty Big Red One, modern warfare (OG) or any of the older ones…please?
Balc0ra
It can run anything. Just depends on how ugly you want it. Serious Sam 3 on the Switch lite is not pretty, but it runs.

I’d pay full price just for a Call of Duty game that focused solely on the zombies mode. Bring back Nacht Der Untoten, Kino Der Toten, and Ascension maps along with others. Playing COD zombies on the go is my dream (and not the mobile app version).
TheAngryRussoGerman
If Wolfenstein, doom, and doom eternal can be ported, so can COD, though I won’t have my heart broken if it isn’t ported.
Brother_Clovis
I just assumed it would run on the cloud, the same way as resident evil, hitman, etc.

Why would anyone think current switch would get a full fat version of current cod? It would either be mobile, be on switch 2 or cloud based.
Honestly when I saw that I immediately though switch 2. We are 1-2 years away from switch 2 and that about lines up with the next Cod as they are moving away from yearly releases.
LadyOfMelancholy
Just port CODM to the Switch.
FemmeViolet117
Like a Switch couldn’t run a Black Ops collection, Modern Warfare collection, or Zombies collection. Put a few of the old games on a cartridge, sell for $40, profit. Easy.

To be fair the og Wii ran call of duty 4 just fine loved it for awhile actually tbh. Had a bit of fun with it. It can be done. Especially considering they make mobile games. They could make a stand-alone or a modified title for the platform.
But imo it won’t happen anytime soon. Unless Microsoft wins in the uk. But then it’s up to Nintendo to allow it on their platform and I don’t think that would happen.
Lastly, the cma is kind of ridiculous with their claims. If they had a better reason put toward as to why the blockage is occurring maybe I’d side with them.

Why are people assuming it needs to run the exact same version of Call of Duty as more powerful consoles? That’s such a strange and narrow-minded assumption. Developers could make a COD just for Switch. Or they could port COD Mobile. Or they could remaster older CODs for Switch. There are options.
Juicemania50
I’m sure Nintendo is working on something more powerful than the switch that would run cod just fine , those old farts probably don’t even know how to use a switch lol
Vinterblot
That’s a weird argument. Because the CMA is right to dismiss CoD for Switch as an argument pro Microsoft.
But the reason is: If there’s actually a meaningful audience for CoD on Switch (as in: There’s money to be made), then Activision would already do it themselves. They don’t need Microsoft for that, nor a special agreement with Nintendo. I can’t imagine Nintendo doing anything else then shrugging when Phil Spencer made a big deal out of an agreement with Nintendo, because basically everyone who want to release a game in Switch is free to do so.
So what does it tells us that there isn’t already CoD on Switch? That the audience is too small from a business perspective to justify a port, which directly translates to: Microsoft announcing CoD on Switch doesn’t change any of the concerns. Announcing a port anyway doesn’t cushion the impact of the merger, since it can’t influence a business when there isn’t a business to begin with.
BebeFanMasterJ
Okay then just port Black Ops 2 and be done with it.
NorthKoala47
It’s possible, but they would take a lot of graphical sacrifices and it would take a ton of work if they want to achieve a Witcher 3 level of a port. MW3 was on Wii so if they could do it then I don’t see why they couldn’t do it again.
Ancient_Ad_2157
If they were able to put doom, an amazing looking game that’s also 100 gigs into the switch with only 30 gigs, then cod can work
