Hi everyone! I’m that lawyer, that makes the YouTube videos.

This is likely my last Nintendo video for a little while, but I wanted to set the record straight regarding the recent settlement with “hacker” Gary Bowser. I’ll always be floating around the subreddit though!

There’s a lot more to this case than what public perception has lead us to believe!

Please don’t hesitate to remove this, mods, if you feel it is not appropriate content for the sub.

I hope you will all enjoy: please let me know if you have any questions. I’d be happy to answer, as always!

Just watched the whole thing. Very well put together. I hope this gets more publicity. I had no idea Bowser was thrown under the bus by these scumbags.

Just finished watching this less than an hour ago, Very well done video, I felt like there was something more to this situation than what YouTubers like Penguinz0 would lead people to believe.

Great video, honestly I wonderd why noone talked about the Company Gary Bowser was apart of

Nintendo gets alot of flack for “hating” it’s fans or backwards policies and alot of it rightfully so. However, in these two cases you covered, you showed they’re mostly justified for what they did. PC publically paid modders 10k to get a multiplayer BOTW mod and Team Xecuter profited off of what was essentially piracy (still sucks they didn’t get the people who are really responsible). I feel if the articles and YT videos that covered these stories mentioned those facts, there would be alot less sympathy for these guys. Appreciate the legal perspective on these matters!

I cannot get over how many critics seem to assume that this lawyer is acting as Nintendo’s lawyer.

OP is not defending Nintendo’s actions. They are providing their well-researched interpretation of the law and soooo many people are butt hurt over it.

Finally, someone actually pointing out how Xecuter are actual criminals and the greater implications around the case. So tired of seeing people without context proclaim Nintendo is being ruthless when they aren’t being ruthless enough against the right people.

It really sucks that YouTubers like penguinz0 like to paint Nintendo as the bad guys, when clearly, that’s not the case here.

  9. This video was sorely needed, WAY too many people mindlessly hopped on the Nintendo=bad bandwagon with this story.

I’ve been watching your channel for a few weeks now, and I’m so glad you’ve been making these videos. It’s really easy to question so many of Nintendo’s decisions from a consumer perspective, like why Nintendo would target an individual with such a large fine, or why they would never localize Mother 3 to the west. Hearing a lawyer’s perspective on why they make some of these seemingly baffling decisions with a clear explanation of the legal systems behind them brings a whole new layer to these discussions that few (if any) delve into. Keep up the good work Moony!

You’re supporting the common view. Gary Bowser is “a fall guy”–your words. He didn’t deserve a financial life sentence. Even if he made $320K before, that’s a small fraction of $10+4 million, and he’s not making good money anymore. It doesn’t matter how far the US dollar goes in the DR, or anywhere else. It doesn’t matter how big Team Executer is. He’s a marketing *fall guy*.

The details are welcome, but they don’t upend the popular attitude toward this cruel and unusual punishment.

Have you ever covered how the DMCA survives to this day in spite of the US Constitution? That’s a video I’d love to watch. Thanks.

An extremely fascinating video. Great job, Moony!

I’m also bookmarking this for reference. This is the only source I’ve seen that actually tells us what Team Xecuter was/is doing, and those saying that Nintendo is the clear cut bad guy are fools.
