32 bytes and it didn’t happen to everyone. No one is getting infected with malware with a 32 byte file. Clickbait headline.

  2. SpongederpSquarefap

It was an exe some random guy published

Why anyone would run that is beyond me

  3. scarletofmagic

Lol, every time a hot game is out, they attract new pirates who just download random files, ie Hogwart Legacy situation. If you want to pirate and emulate the game, at least be smart about it.

Just run the xci on the switch natively. It runs kinda ass when ultra hand is used so I literally overclocked my switch just so it runs better. Most people probably won’t mind but it dips super hard. Like below 15 fps

Meanwhile people on the PC sub reddit playing this game on PC saying it runs better then triple A titles that are ported to PC. Then the other day on this sub some guy saying your not a real zelda fan if you download it. Zelda fans Gate keeping zelda fans PC gamers not giving a single shit man I love reddit.

  6. bot_not_rot

nobody even knows if it’s malware yet guys. real good journalism here

Seriously? Running EXE’s to run a XCI on a official emulator…desperate people eh?

The emulator does run Zelda substantially better than the latest yuzu early access builds and ryujinx. The claim that it was sending data to Belarus was made by a guy on 4chan who later admitted to lying about it.

Not saying that this emulator couldn’t actually be malware or to run random .exes from suspicious reddit users in piracy subreddits, but that particular claim about it sending data was more than likely just a very successful troll.

The emulator being so far ahead of any of the other community patches leads me to believe it’s likely some internal yuzu build that got leaked or released in such a way that can’t be traced back to them (pushing code in a public emulator github repo clearly driven by studying an illegally leaked game would not be a good look for them from a legal standpoint).

Something else to add is that the Yuzu devs, who paywall their precompiled early access versions of their emulator on Patreon, went after a guy who was (legally) compiling their code and releasing the early access builds for free yesterday. He’s been compiling and releasing yuzu EA builds free for years now, so the timing on this is pretty suspicious. I suspect Yuzu probably did this in preparation to sell their amazing day 1 Zelda emulator build on release day with little trustworthy alternatives besides compiling the code yourself. If Cemu is anything to go by, having a paywalled emulator that can run Zelda day 1 would be an enormous financial payoff for them.

So anyway, just outright calling it malware when there has yet to be any credible evidence is quite a stretch imo. Still makes for a very interesting story though with how bizarre the circumstances surrounding it are.

Lot of dummies in this thread. The exe was not malware. People posting “fuck around and find out” and “play stupid games win stupid prizes” are cringe and wrong lol.

Don’t worry guys, I’m sure Nintendo will make it through this tragedy.

  10. specificinterestacc

Nintendo making up propaganda to stop us from downloading the game

  11. aRandomBlock

No it didn’t happen, there is no proof about it, only 1 guy in 4chan claimed the modded emulator sent 32 bytes from their PC to Belarus with 0 proof or evidence, everyone who is using the same modded emulator is running everything just fine

    Stop spreading misinformation ffs

  12. hollow_walker

I mean that is pretty common especially with popular games, movies or whatever on the websites where you can download them. That’s why my first rule if I download something like that is to check the files with antivirus before opening them lol

  13. ocxtitan

Not true, great research, article writer.

Also all the people in here white knighting for Nintendo like they aren’t just another money hungry corporation make me sick. You’re like simps defending some influencer that’s never gonna fuck you.

  14. FreshPrinceOfRivia

Piracy was such a joy in the early 2010s. Kickasstorrents all night baby.

  15. jrs798310842

The game is awesome so far. You are all in for a treat!!

  16. jaydogggg

Trust me, no one who knows what they’re doing opened an exe file. That shit went straight into the do not download

  17. pocket_arsenal

Ah, viruses and roms, it’s just like emulating in the 90’s. It’s just missing the inexplicable porno slide shows for some reason.

  18. TheCrach

Clickbait and an article that’s full of lies, twistedvoxel added to the blacklist.

  19. mechunderscore

It’s not even malware. This is misinformation spread by the Yuzu emulator devs who are seething about a dev version of their emulator leaking.

  20. Lapras_Lass

This article is totally not Nintendo trying to dissuade people from emulating the game. Nope. Not at all.
