Advance Wars Reboot Camp is receiving Review-Bombing on Metacritic? (Debate)

I make this question to make some debate, since I´ve seen that the overall score from players on the Reboot is 5.0 on Metacritic

[Metacritic Advance Wars reboot camp](https://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/advance-wars-1-+-2-re-boot-camp)

The critics reviews give a high 8.2 overall score to the game. Nevertheless, the user score gives the game an awful 4.9.

The negative critics are mainly to the design that many people consider “ugly” or that the units design affects the gameplay with confusing models. I´ve seen also some people on youtube criticizing the game for this. What´s worse is that at some videos I´ve shared my experience, (which is ositive) and mentioned that for example, the game has voice acting (even if it´s not the best), and the authors of the video told me in comments that they didn´t know about that, what makes me think that they haven´t played the game.

So I´ve brought this issue here, because I disagree with these people, sure the game it´s not a 10, but I assure it´s not a 5 tho. And also, idk why some people hate Advance Wars Reboot Camp that much, the game is enjoyable, the IA is better and doesn´t cheat as the originals, the voices are doubled to many languages (not perfectly as ´ve said before, but makes the characters more memorable) and there are lots of easter-eggs, and incorporates online mode (even if again, it´s not the best)… (For me the game would be a (7.7-8.5) So what is the point of the hate to this game of franchise for being so punctilious?

For me the worst thing is that the franchise could disappear if the game doesn´t sell well thanks to the bad player reviews that feels sometimes unfair.

I think this debate is interesting because I think review bombing is increasing more and more these days.

>UPDATE/edit: **SEEMS THAT DE ADVANCE WARS BOMBING IS BEING EXPANDED TO OTHER GAMES:** Source:[https://gonintendo.com/contents/19984-nintendo-s-2023-releases-see-a-wave-of-review-bombing-on-metacritic](https://gonintendo.com/contents/19984-nintendo-s-2023-releases-see-a-wave-of-review-bombing-on-metacritic)

**The games affected includes Fire emblem engage, Kirby´s Return to Dreamland, Metroid Prime Remaster, Bayonetta Origins and Mario Kart Booster course pass.** Seems the hate avalanche is spread over lol

I think anyone who cares about Metacritic user scores is a chump.

    Just enjoy what you enjoy.

I’d imagine the low score is occurring because people are still mad about the delay or are angry about who was selected for the voice cast. It’s definitely understandable if people are disappointed with the game, but considering that one of the VA’s has an obsessive hate group surrounding them, I wouldn’t be surprised if they review bombed the game.

The whole design argument “this game looks ugly” happens time and time again when you have a pixel art game shifting to 3d. This has been a constant for many years.

Metacritic only cares about ‘review bombing’ when it happens on Sony’s titles. Other Nintendo and Microsoft titles in the past have received similar treatment for years, but only Sony’s games gets a red flag from Metacritic. We should really be asking why Metacritic has an uneven playing field in this regard.

  5. Maybe the game isn’t the masterpiece you think it is but that shouldn’t matter. If you like and enjoy the game that’s all that matters. Advance Wars is a pretty low profile game to be a victim of review bombing.

The game is better than anything Microsoft or Sony has ever released.

Metacritic user scores are so meaningless. I don’t get why people like YongYea obsess over them like they mean anything. Advance Wars on switch is one of the best games on the platform and what some trolls say on review sites can’t change that.

The games are being review bombed due to the fact Nintendo has been pursuing pirating and emulation recently. People want to be able to play games for free without supporting Nintendo.

I love this game despite some of the aspects I’m not as crazy about (some of the voices for instance). But there are a couple of game bugs (nothing gamebreaking) that really need to patched out sometime soon.

Well yes, it is ugly. And I dont know if I am seeing a tank or a recon. But the game is a solid 8.

What is there to debate? Stop caring about user-reviews on sites like Metacritic, it’s absolutely pointless to look at them.

  12. meta critic is all but useless now.

it used to be the masses would average to about the right guesstimate most of the time, but we’re living in times where people disregard 99% of a game because it can’t hold a steady framerate.

which is arguably an issue and one that affects the whole game, but it doesn’t make any game 1/10 unplayable. but thats the kind of reviews we’re getting. the aw remake looks ugly, 3/10 stars. the rest doesnt even matter. its still a good game, it certainly doesn’t deserve 9/10 no matter what. there’s too much to criticize in terms of missed opportunities to improve on what was a pretty great gba game, but should be so much more 15 years later.

  13. Did a bunch of the negative ratings/reviews get removed? If not, I wouldn’t really consider this a review bombing. I can’t speak for the negative ratings without reviews attached, but it seems like the five or six actual negative reviews are people who bought the game and were unhappy with it.
