The Synergy of 5/5 Lance and Variety Lance | Pokemon Masters EX

Lance was already blessed with one buff this year when he got his 5/5 full diamond expansion. But now with Variety Lance’s arrival, Lance’s performance has jumped even further. V Lance offers Lance a massive 92 point offensive Theme Skill boost, the ability to raise team Crit and Speed and Accuracy, the ability to burn an entire cycle of Sync count together with Lance, tanking, and of course Dragon Rebuff. Something worth noting is that V Lance only needs to target an enemy with Thunder Wave in order to successfully inflict the Rebuff. It doesn’t matter if Thunder Wave fails/misses since the mere act of selecting the enemy for Thunder Wave inflicts Dragon Rebuff.
Virtually all of V Lance’s tools assist Lance in a productive way. The team accuracy buffing is terrific for letting Lance avoid the 10 energy Hyper Beam Accuracy +10 tile. I’m also particularly fond of V Lance’s ability to reduce the Sync count via TM, since that combined with LS HS1 and Lance’s Injured Propulsion tile allow a full cycle skip. Lastly, I like that V Lance can act as a tank (especially at 2/5 with First Aid 4) since it allows the player to take the Support x3 Damage parameter. The 3rd teammate can be anyone (or potentially no one) since the two of them cover attacking and defending pretty well. It’s pretty cool that double Lance is already enough to win without even a Dragon Zone active. I can only hope Pokemon Masters puts out a Lance & Dratini unit down the road and adds the ability to evolve both it and V Lance for a complete triple Lance & Dragonite team. My egg clear with the full Dragonite line is the closest I can get for now.

Fortunately V Lance gets all of his important tools for tanking at 2/5 so it seems like a fine spot to leave him. At 1/5 he’s largely fine too, really just missing First Aid 4 which gives him extra longevity. I personally don’t value his 3/5 as much since I find he offers more if he spends his turns supporting than attacking, since he’s a highly team-oriented Tech.
