It don’t know why it is funny or sad, but a game with such alot of microtransactions and battle pass like Lego Drive is beaten out by a buggy game like Scarlet on its debut.

As someone that didn’t love BOTW (thought it was fine), I am surprised how much I’m enjoying this game. Maybe it’s because Elden Ring really clicked with me, and this style of Open World has become my favorite, but I knew from the tutorial island this was something special. Only like 10 hours in but my 2nd favorite Zelda game. It’s so good.

  3. I’m 45+ hours in now, which is very surprising to me because I’m pretty busy, but I’ve been literally squeezing every free moment I have into this game.

I really liked BOTW, I think it was a pretty monumental game in terms of what it acheived. It really made moving around an open world far more fun than most open world games accomplish. The physics behind it was insanely impressive. It felt natural to the world, things just interacted naturally.

But I had my complaints. I didn’t really care for the micro-progression style that it used. I really missed the classic Zelda feel where you get a new item and the game totally changes, you suddenly feel so much more powerful. BOTW lacked that. Everything you did only improved you in small ways, incrementally. The champions abilities didn’t really feel like they changed how you interacted with the world significantly (except for the one wind ability). I longed for dungeons that were linear in design, but had a longer, more cohesive experience that brought you through this really interesting puzzle. BOTW lacked that. It felt like a really good start, but I really wanted them to bring back those classic Zelda elements.

TOTK does not do that. The issues I had with BOTW are not fixed with TOTK… and yet… I don’t care? TOTK doubles down on the BOTW formula, everything you experience is basically that micro-progression, where no matter what you do, you are slowly, incrementally, making yourself more powerful. The dungeons still have that open design where you can do things in any order, which makes them feel like the puzzles are smaller and less interesting to me. And yet, they refined this concept so damn well that I’m just… enjoying myself so thoroughly I don’t care anymore. It’s too much fun. They doubled down on the BOTW formula, but it feels so polished and far more grand than BOTW, both in scope and in story, there are so many different ways to incrementally progress that you are basically scaling up in whatever way you naturally want to. It’s just a blast.

And the story is much better, so far. Totally loving this game. Didn’t quite get what I wanted, but I’m loving what I have.

I’m not surprised as this game really improves on BOTW in all possible aspects that it had to improve upon.

For me personally I’ve found it hard to get into since I’ve still got open world fatigue and I saw it coming but having to traverse Hyrule *again* to get shrines *again* is kind of killing my hype.

My partner on the other hand is spending as much time as she can in it even though she’s annoyed at how weapons break and the lack of readily available armour.

People who loved the formula for BOTW and aren’t sick of it will doubtlessly enjoy this as well as some DS fans I’d say. Plus the Ninty fandom stays forever loyal. I’d wager it’ll hold this spot for a little while longer

After seeing the guy on TikTok who made an AC-130, an A-10 Warthog, and a tank, all fully functional, I don’t know how it couldn’t be

I’ve been playing totk every day for at least 5 hours a day ever since release. I’m so addicted

I loved BotW. I think I put around 150 hours into that game. I’m only 7-8 hours into TotK and I can already say that I’m enjoying it even more than I did BotW. I like the abilities a lot more in this one. In BotW I didn’t use the abilities very much outside of shrines. I used the bombs occasionally in combat. In TotK I’m using the fuse ability a lot. I love the ascend ability. The ultra hand is pretty cool too. Fun to mess around with.

I find the game design to be really great. Very minor spoilers for the tutorial area. >!The rail outside of the ultra hand shrine probably catches most players eyes. I investigated it a bit before going into the shrine. After I exited the shrine having gained the ultra hand ability there was the rail and I was now aware of what it could be used for. There wasn’t a cutscene zooming in on the rail or a pop up reminding you of the ability you just got 5 minutes ago. It just catches your eye and lets you do the rest. Also the boss of the tutorial area is pretty challenging and lets you make use of your abilities to defeat it. And it’s just there on its own little island and is entirely optional.!<The last time I played I found a cave and after clearing it out I figured I would just use ascend for a quicker exit instead of running back to the entrance. And after doing so I found myself standing right beside a Korok flower. I love stuff like that. That’s good game design.

I did not like breath of the wild but tears of the Kingdom actually improved on it in every area (besides framerate that’s still bad) and after having beaten it a few days ago i have to say it’s finally taken down windwaker as my favorite Zelda game.

  10. I’ve never got to enjoy BOTW back in the day. But I’m 150 hours deep in TOTK so far and will prob go for 100%. It’s just been a blast.

  11. I mean, as good as the game is this is hardly surprising. There currently aren’t any other big new games it’s competing with. Just look at the top 10 in the article, many of the games on that list are months or even years old. Of course this year’s GotY contender by Nintendo is going to sit comfortably at position 1…

I’d be incredibly surprised if it didn’t.

I’ve been seeing people all over playing this game. Waiting for the train, on the train, at the park and even walking down the street lol
