All it took was 30 years of developing the IP. Frozen didn’t have that luxury. Frozen is still more impressive to come out with a smash hit on the first attempt into a new IP. They were smart to play it relatively safe with the Mario movie. It’s just guaranteed money

I’m just gonna fuckin’ say it. I fucking cried the entire time. I’m a grown ass man just fucking tearing up because every goddamned scene had some great call back to a game that didnt feel forced. The story was generic (I don’t care) but I fucking loved this movie and watched it again the next day.
I don’t watch movies twice.

Shocking. Also shocking to see that Frozen II made more than Frozen xD really goes to show (at least imo) that box office income don’t mean shit. Frozen 2 was solid. But Frozen was -fantastic- (and also miles better than the Mario movie imo). The Mario movie was excellent. But was a kids cartoon. Frozen actually had some depth to it and was a much better movie. I enjoyed the Mario movie a lot more. But I think Frozen is miles better.

But tickets cost more now so this statistic will always be skewed. It should be the amount of ticket sales they go by smh. I’ve never understood why this other method of calculation is accepted.

Mario was alright. It was pretty dull the needle drop on music was a bit too much and the jokes never seemed to end. Jack Black has written far better music & was superb as a voice actor whereas other voice actors were disappointing.

If only the Mario movie was great. I think we were so damned thirsty for something better than the original SMBros that we gladly accepted whatever they threw at us. That Jack Black song is so phoned in.
