“second biggest” may make for an exciting article but it’s still technically third behind the Lion King remake, which is virtually entirely computer-generated animation.

I didn’t like the Super Mario Bros Movie and was worried what the effects of it being the highest grossing animated movie of all time would be, but hot damn, I don’t need to worry as the highest grossing animated movies are pretty much all garbage. I just hope the success of the movie doesn’t ruin the games.

Unless you adjust for inflation, then it’s probably not even in the top 10.

Glad it’s out there for people to enjoy but I freaking hated this movie lol. Clearly made by fans, which I suppose is better than nothing, but the references can’t make up for lack of heart. With DreamWorks and Sony raising the storytelling bar in Puss and Boots and Spider-verse, films like Mario feel stuck in a dated era of lazy writing and soulless licensed music

One of the best movies ever

If people thought this adaptation was “safe” then we need more adaptations like it.I roll my eyes at video game adaptations where the director wants to put their spin on it or the dreaded “updated for modern audiences!” Resident Evil is an example. They refuse to take the game and just put it on screen!

remember kids, you can get away with mediocrity as long as there’s a big name attached to it

people in here about to lose their shit over a children’s movie

Would love to see the numbers for all films in terms of tickets sold and total population at that time.

Now compare this movie to the recent buzz light year movie and tell me the implications

Is the first “infinity war” or “end game”?

This is depressing. The movie’s financial success will encourage more soulless blockbuster crap that lives and dies off of the “loveletter” half assed fanservice. This could set a very worrying precedent for animated movies going forward

I think Across the Spiderverse is going to blow this out of the water as the highest grossing animated film.

A 50 minute film that is just a billion references a second.

FALSE! Mario’s only number 3. Lion King remake is NOT live action

Nintendo fans: **celebrating the Mario bros movie surpassing Frozen**
Frozen II: 👀

Frozen is a much better movie, so this merely reflects just how incredibly powerful Mario’s brand is.
