and here comes the floods of posts about this now

This has the potential to be fantastic. But maybe not if the Minion guys do it.

There better be a montage of breaking pots and cutting grass for rupees.

Idk how they’ll do this in a movie format. Will they go off of breath of the wild? Will they do something new? Or will they base it off the old games like a link to the past or OOT? There’s a lot they can do. But I’m sure they’ll figure it out. Since the Mario Movie was a huge success.

I’ve often dreamed of a Studio Ghilbli inspired Zelda show. It’d rely a lot of visual story telling, with little to no dialogue. We would just observe a day in the life of Link in the Zelda universe. He wakes up, he eats, he collects fruits, berries, and mushrooms, he cleans/sharpens his sword, he travels, he explores, he sneaks, he fights, and he befriends and protects a korok, with the occasional big boss fight, and each episode generally ends in roughly the same spot where he started.

The Legend of Zelda is not a game for the same demographic as mario games. Making this animated, and with illumination would be an Awful choice. ugh.

Do I want a Zelda movie? Fuck yes.

Do I want a CGI animated Zelda movie by Illumination? FUCK NO.

At the minimum, I’ll take DreamWorks and the team behind How To Train Your Dragon. At best, a 2D Studio Ghibli film.

Illumination if fine for most of Nintendo’s IP, but Zelda needs to be respected for its more serious tone. Keep the studio of Minions as far away as possible from Zelda.

If it’s not a retelling of one of the games an original story could work.

Link is different in almost every game, so fans can justify his talking as being this eras Link.

Then throw in enough references that allow fans to continue their timeline discourse.

I think a Zelda movie would benefit not being as fast paced as the Mario movie.

Makes sense considering Chris Meledandri, the ceo of Illumination has been on the Nintendo board of directors since 2021. Plus Nintendo is a pretty loyal customer, you make a good product,(Money) and they’ll keep you around forever (Game Freak). Universal caught a big fish, it only makes sense to ring as much money out of it as possible.

Feels like there are a million ways to fuck this up, yet there is also some incredibly amazing outcome possible as well.

When we getting the Fire Emblem movie?

Please let Dreamworks do this movie!

  13. AnneTheOminous

Dreamworks would be a better fit for a Zelda movie, especially since they made How to Train Your Dragon.

  14. PunishedInkwell

Well, at least this time no plain, soulless voice actor will be voicing Link… Right?

A Zelda movie should NOT be a comedy.

  16. Mellow_rages

I want him silent for the entire film, except one f bomb in the third act.

  17. Immediate first thought when a new Mario movie was announced: oh, cool. That should be fun, no matter how ridiculous it is.

Immediate first thought when a Zelda movie was hinted at in this post: FUCK NO.

Don’t get me wrong. I think it would be hella cool. I just think it’s going to be super cheesy and be a problem to the brand. Link is a silent hero, and that doesn’t really make for a good movie.

Minions in Yiga outfits screaming “BA-NA-NA!!!”

  19. CheesieMan

If it were my choice, it’d be an anime preferably with Ghibli’s style. I can’t imagine a good looking 3D Link in my mind, so I hope that’s not just me.
