I suppose the next system is backwards compatible, and this is to easily download all your digital Switch games on it once you enter your account.

  2. Not surprised. No need to build from scratch.

  3. MorbidSloth

Yeah but they’ll make you enter your credentials on a T9

It is expected. But it is nice to finally get official confirmation.

I sincerely hope this means backwards compatibility. I already got burnt by digital purchases on the Wii U, I don’t want the same with switch.

I’m honestly expecting a direct successor to the switch as the next console anyways (Switch 2, Switch Pro, Super Nintendo Switch), whatever it’ll be called… And hopefully backwards compatible.

With almost 130 million consoles and counting it would be bad to not use the same nintendo account and let us transfer our digital games so it is a nice to have a confirmation. On top of that it practically confirms the next console will be backwards compatible with switch games.

As a person just getting into switch I’m glad to see this

Hopefully the same physical Switch games will work on it too like the DS to 3DS transition. Man I am so pumped for a new Switch. It really is time.

Probably the most important piece of information they can put out there in regards to the next console. The Switch library is immense and so is my backlog.

Just release a beef up Switch we don’t need another gimmicky console. Switch is perfect as it is except for joycon drifts.

This is great to have, although I know I won’t play Switch games on a future console.

Not sure why so many are assuming this means backwards compatibility. Sounds to me like, “you don’t have to create another Nintendo account for the next system”. I used my 3DS account on my Switch but can’t play 3DS games on it.

Good news, I wouldn’t be surprised if they sold games from the switch for the second time.

  16. Labyrinthy

    Honestly I just want a Switch 2.

Give me what the Switch does already with better hardware. That’s it.

That doesn’t surprise me. NSO always seemed like a long term thing. If the next console came out and suddenly the SNES and N64 games were gone, why would people continue paying for NSO expansion? They wouldn’t.

PS4/5 uses the same PSN account as PS3, so this doesn’t really confirm BC. Fingered crossed tightly though.

The sad part of this news is: that it is even worth mentioning to use the same account system.
