>The next-gen Nintendo Switch successor could launch far sooner than expected, according to a new report. The original Nintendo Switch launched all the way back in March 2017. It was followed by the Switch Lite a couple of years later in 2019, and by the OLED model in October 2021. With the console closing in on its seven-year anniversary, there are rumours that the Nintendo Switch 2 will finally make its debut in Q1 2024.
>That’s according to a fresh report on Chinese site MoneyDJ, which suggests that a company called Hongzhun is manufacturing metal cases for the upcoming device. The report claims that Hongzhun is expecting a major revenue boost in the second half of this year, as it begins to churn out metal cases for the Nintendo Switch 2.
>Sharp is rumoured to be manufacturing screens for the new device, while one European developer reportedly has a dev-kit.

Q1 2024 was also in the Scarlet Violet DLC leak like half a year ago or so

It’s about as reasonable as any other guess other than the “there’s not gonna be a switch 2 anytime soon” people

Seems like an awkward window. Obviously they wouldn’t want to cannibalize holiday sales with such an announcement, but that would mean there’d be very little time for marketing and buildup.
They don’t want to make the mistake they made with the WiiU by not clarifying why people should buy the new system. They don’t want to alienate their install base by not having it be backward compatible, but they also need to give people a reason to own it so it’d need exclusive titles.
But then having amazing new titles in just 6-10 months sounds like quite the project. TOTK and Mario wonder will be expected to sell for at least a year or more after their release. And new entries in those franchises would cut into sales for those games, potentially.
All in all, I’d be surprised if we weren’t still a ways out from a successor. Nintendo has also stated a new console would need to be a new experience. They’re not ones to just update graphics and move on. They could just make a revision to the oled model for that.

Doubt, they would have announced already if it was that soon
