Not even two months after its launch, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has officially surpassed 18.51 million units as of June 30 of this year. That’s over half of the 30.65 million that Breath of the Wild has sold in over six years.

Not super surprising. Games tend to be front heavy in terms of sales, plus a larger install base on the platform means that the sales won’t necessarily be as spread out.
Ok
That’s kind of disappointing in a way. It sold 10 million in a weekend and only 8 million in 2 months
Isn’t the more interesting stat how many copies botw sold in that same amount of time or am I stupid?
Comparing it to Breath of the Wild in regards to unit sales over time isn’t logical. How many Switches were on the market when BotW was 2 months old? Heck how many were on the market when BotW was 3 years old? TotK might pass BotW, but these numbers aren’t really any indication of whether or not that will happen.
*gets out calculator*
18,510,000 x 70 = 1,295,700,000.
I think they made a profit on this one, guys.
Game of the year, didn’t expect less
That’s over a billion dollars.
I’m guessing we will get another Zelda in this style.
Ugh. I hate articles like this. BotW has sold more than 30.65M copies. 30.65M is Switch sales alone.
Nintendo never revealed final Wii U BotW sales, basically all we know is that it was under 2.27 Million, with the best estimate being ~1.7 million.
That puts total BotW sales to ~32.35 million.
It won’t reach BoTW’s sales figures.
I played probably 150 hours before beating the main story. The only game I’ve hadore time in is Super Smash Bros and that was since I got my switch in 2020.
TOTK just hits right and I’m looking forward to going back and revisiting stuff I undoubtedly missed.
All this tells me is that $70 games are here to stay lol
I suspect the game’s frontloading since the Switch has a big fat install base, and all of them know and want Zelda. It’s going to lose pace pretty soon and I doubt it will surpass BOTW.
It may very well get into the mid 20s though, which is stupid big and impressive.
According to Wikipedia, that makes it the [9th best selling game on the Switch.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Nintendo_Switch_video_games) Impressive, especially considering that all of the other games in the top 10 (aside from Scarlet/Violet) have had *at least* 3 years to amass sales
I’m on vacation this week. Yesterday I wore my Zelda shirt. Had 2 random people come up to me to talk about TotK.
RIP old Zelda and the joy/charm the og series used to have
Favorite Switch game.
I was finally able to order this game yesterday, going to pick it up later for the weekend! It was difficult, I haven’t seen a single trailer or anything about the game. Wanted to go in totally blind.
Hate to say it but I was left WAY more disappointed with TotK than i hoped.
Monumental in scope? Sure, in pure numbers it has like 2,5x more content than BotW.
But to me it is a ridiculously recycled BotW experience – i hate they reused the same Hyrule map (especially since VAST areas of Hyrule are just as empty as in BotW) and after almost 100%-ing Depths – imo they are incredibly bloated and repetitive.
TotK is one of those games where i would REALLY appreciate honest reviews after, say, 1-2 months – at first it charms you with its incredible vastness but in my experience burns you out with so much repetitive and done/seen-it-already (in BotW) stuff.
The Zonai stuff is pretty fun but i would FAR prefer it in a brand new world (like Majora’s Mask brought).
Plus the story starts promising but ends up being just unimpressive and clichéd.
This game was funny until the story starts happening and then it’s cringe anime. The build mechanics on go so far for the enjoyment.
Haven’t played it yet. Is there any good? Is it better than the last one?
