This is translated from an interview Japanese news outlet NHK conducted with Furukawa:
> While there is no particular technology we are focusing on at the moment, we are conducting research on a variety of new technologies. However, I believe the most important thing for our company is not seeking new technologies for novelty’s sake, but rather considering how they can lead to revolutions in the act of play itself. The idea is that if we become convinced that incorporating a certain technology can provide customers with a fresh and surprising experience, then we covet its research more strongly, making investments when necessary as well.

So long as their next console is hybrid again, maybe rog ally power but better battery would be amazing. Handheld made the switch.

Try catching up to the rest of the industry before trying to change the way we play lol

“…revolutions in the act of play itself.”
They had this with the Wii, and then reverted back to more traditional methods of playing video games. Not much of a revolution when the innovation doesn’t stick around.
VR seems like somewhat of a slow burn to me, however it IS trendy. Nintendo could have, in sticking with and improving the Wii style of playing games, been a “halfway” option for people who are intrigued by VR but aren’t keen on the headsets.

Nintendo: We seek out new tech to make cardboard move! It’s a revolution!
Also Nintendo: We don’t want current tech to make games prettier, faster, or smoother because that’s not revolutionary.

What a ridiculous lie
Lonely_Shallot109
unless switch 2 has a gimmick that is interesting, I doubt they will have the success of the old one. a lot of new competition has entered the market. seems like another ds->3ds situation

Sounds accurate to me as companies are always copying Nintendo. Steam deck, ROG Ally, Aya neo, there’s a new Lenovo one coming out. Sony is doing their new streaming handheld.
In the Wii era you got PlayStation Move and Xbox kinect.
Nintendo drives innovative ways to play. Some of them catch on and others don’t but typically they have something new and fun and when successful it gets copied.
I’m interested to see what they’ll come up with next and whatever it is I’m sure it will be fun

Look for tech that can run games at 1080p at 60 fps all the time, as well as both a battery that can last 12 hours even at the highest setting AND an online system that can connect you “to the world” all the time… and you’re good.
If gaming is going all digital and with the cloud, companies are going to need stuff that allow gaming on the go everywhere. Most regions on the globe don’t have wifi routers on every street corner, so something that can connect you to your device without interrupting your game would be ideal.

When my several year old phone more powerful than their current console I can’t really take Nintendo serious in same way I do the other console makers when it comes to innovation. Can’t say they done much of anything new for a very long time now.

Says the company that decided to stick some buttons on an ipad for the wii u controller and called it a day

ITT: people not understanding that Furukawa ≠ Iwata. Did everyone forget that Furukawa took over *after* the switch was already out, after Kimishima stepped down from the role as effectively “acting” president? This new president clearly wants to focus less on gimmick/innovation.

Some BS from nintendo.

The Wii was called the Nintendo Revolution before release. So this mindset has been there for quite a while.
evan2nerdgamer
As long as Nintendo uses the tech, properly in a way that’s beneficial.
The Wii was revoloutionary and its pointer and eventual gyro technoology made console shooting a lot more usable and precise to a level almost on MnK. but the Wiis emphasis on waggle motions for a lot of their games made a lot of hardcore gamers swore off of it to this day.
The Xbox Controllers still too this day don’t have Gyro, and there’s little support outside of Nintendo and stuff like GibbSmarts JoyShockMapper on PC. To this day, people still give me weird looks when I play with Gyro in shooters and a lot of them ask how I’m able to play from constantly moving the controller as if I play Halo like a Wii game.

Sounds like he’s saying switch 2 will just be a more powerful switch and they arent going to be gimmick hunting through fucking dumpsters to slap on a shitty gimmick no one cares about das the main focus destroying the momentum of the last system amd turning the transition into the new system Into a train wreck failure.
Don’t make massive changes unless it’s actually a massive change.
DarkKirby14
are you sure about that?

So they motion controls only console that pushed me away from Nintendo for 10 years wasn’t a gimmick. Makes sense now.

And yet the Wii U happened lol.
Jokes aside, would be neat to see them explore immersive HMD tech as a spin-off from the mainline Switch series (much like how they used to operate console/handheld), but they likely won’t touch any of that until it’s very late.

Great, can they now revolutionize my joycon drift, it’s getting really annoying

The last two things they invented that every one adopted (aka revolutions) were the Control Stick and Rumble, and they came out on the N64.
Nintendo, please stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
Gabagoolgoomba
Anti piracy revolutions?
Rockfish00
is that why they treat online multiplayer like an afterthought?
I just hope that if they come out with another Switch-type console, they’ll call it the Super Switch instead of the Switch 2. Though honestly I’m still absolutely happy with my Switch that I currently have, and don’t particularly feel like a new system is necessary unless they do actually revolutionize the industry again with something ultra-baller.
I get that the graphics are better on other consoles, but it’s not a drastic enough of a difference to where it really matters anymore. Kinda like 8K televisions vs 4K televisions. And honestly 4K isn’t even much better than 1080P unless you have a huge-ass television.
The N64 to Gamecube jump was HUGE, as we went from very blocky 3D games to much smoother games. I remember seeing Rogue Squadron for the first time and being fairly amazed. But every graphic jump since then has been less and less …whelming. The jump to HD was definitely nice and noticeable to reduce jagged edges and such, but still the returns keep getting more and more diminished with each new generation.
Sorry, went off on a tangent there. Mostly what I’m saying is that I fuckin BETTER be able to play all my Switch games on whatever new system they come out with, because I practically have the equivalent of my Steam library on my Switch now and there’s no way I’m buying all that stuff again. So with a new system I’m worried about how that situation will play out. Going from the Wii to the Wii U was a pretty good transition though as far as that goes so hopefully they do something consumer-friendly like that again.
Nos9684
Highly debatable. Here is hoping they rely on less gimmicks to make up for outdated tech going forward and make the Switch’s successor a bit more modern tech wise.
Odd_Radio9225
And yet they are against game preservation.

Cool. Your games run like shit and are ugly as fuck Nintendo
