Give us a AAA pokemon at the size of Breath of the Wild.

It’s because developers have mostly forgotten what an engaging story looks like. The game has to be fun, with a satisfying gameplay loop, but it also has to entice with a really good story to tell.
Unless you’re a fighting game or a racing game or something and even then, it’s made *better* with a solid narrative.
Arcade_Rave
hes talking about people getting bored of Nintendo because of all the other options there are, but I’m just sitting here bored of everything because I want Mario Wonder to be out already
OldObeseOtaku
Just release Wind waker and twilight Princess for switch and l’ll engage like I’ve never engaged before.
Simonxzx
Then maybe start giving us Paper Mario games like the first two ones?
rapplechackles
put your old shit on mobile devices and everyone will engage u fucking troglodytes
Discobastard
How about treating them some respect, treat your IP with respect, and stop ripping your fans off?

Honestly the past year has been amazing like every month has had a major release it’s not feeling the way it did with the Wii U era where even a hardcore Nintendo fan like myself started using other platforms like PlayStation and Xbox.
idontknowyet
Why don’t they start by releasing [remake of game I played in my childhood]. That’ll definitely make me engaged!
tidytuna
get an official original gameboy emulator out on mobile, the vertical form factor matches the original hardware. adults will go nuts

Step 1: play old classic titles from the NES and SNES era
Step 2: try to understand what made them so fun, and what the devs tried to accomplish
Step 3: emulate those ideas by expanding upon them
A good example of a forgotten mechanic was the way the map board worked in Super Mario bros 3. It made multiplayer a team based effort, with team based penalties.
It was an incredibly fun mechanic as a child trying to unlock the shortcuts so we wouldn’t have to redo some difficult levels on death, or getting the better player to complete an exceptionally hard level. Having to redo levels we already completed also help hone our skills and become better.

An example of a good idea with poor execution would be Zelda 2.
I would love a new side scrolling Zelda adventure based on the gameplay of this game, but with better controls, visuals, and an open world concept.
Hollowknight is the perfect example of this idea done properly, and there is no reason that Nintendo couldn’t use it as a template for their own zelda adventure.

Nintendo games are for kids. So I can understand why adults thing they are boring. I would just move on with my life. Settle down. Have some kids.

Give us GC virtual console with Melee, Sunshine, Custom Robo, OG Animal Crossing, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Wind Waker, Billy Hatcher, Wind Waker, Star Fox Adventures, and Skies of Arcadia and so many folks will be set for a year or two.
As elated as I was at the Metroid Prime remaster, I’m torn because I can 100% see them stating that because one GC game got a separate treatment, they can’t do a GC virtual console because that’s how their logic just seems to work sometime.
Part of the problem is that a lot of third party developers don’t always go back and expand off of older ideas. I would LOVE another Billy Hatcher, or a new Viewtiful Joe. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has been the JSRF sequel that we’ve been missing for over 2 decades now and it was a small indie studio that gave it to us.
While I’m glad it’s easier than ever for indie/small groups to get games published and out there, a lot of them get lost in the ocean of the barely a mobile game, but on a console/shovelware. It’s frustrating to go looking for something in the shops and have to sit through what feels like an endless loop of dollar games with questionable content before I see a game that appears to be more solid.

We just need The Switch U

Here’s my hot take…
Nintendo doesn’t innovate and does the absolute bare minimum. Mario is now….AN ELEPHANT! /s
Who cares… Why is this supposed to be exciting!? In Mario Odyssey he turned into a T-rex and other things.
Splatoon 2 and 3 are literally the same game as splatoon 1 but with new maps…. Now you can play as an OCTOLING! /s. How about you give me a skill tree… Weapon customization…
Absolutely nothing Nintendo does makes me excited. I’m happy there are people who seem to enjoy Zelda and the rinse/repeat that that series has had for the last 20 years… But come on. Give me something new.

Game companies have gotten complacent, relying on historically well-received IP to drive sales without really delivering on user experience, any way you slice it.
Between crunch culture, microtransactions, and toxic working environments, game devs have been fighting an uphill battle for 10-15 years now.
Case in point, look at the Baldur’s Gate 3 release: a clean, polished, full game with no microtransactions, excellent and thoughtful gameplay and a superbly engaging story.
Larian nailed it on all fronts and game companies are telling us that’s what we *shouldn’t* expect, that we *shouldn’t* use BG3 as a measure of what a release should be.
The cacophony of complaints from many AAA studios dumping all over Larian and BG3 should tell you all you need to know about the state of this “harsh battle.”

Give me Metroid Prime Echoes Remastered, and I’ll forget my PS5 exists for a good few weeks.

Nintendo: how do we engage our gamers!?!?
Gamers: please more balance patches in ssbu and fix online
Nintendo: if only there was a way to engage our gamers!!!!
Gamers: a new fzero/dk would be awesome!
Nintendo: WHY CAN’T WE THINK OF ANYTHING?!?
Gamers: would be nice if you added more games to the NES/SNES/GBA/N64 online
Nintendo: THERE MUST BE SOMETHING…
Gamers: fixing the drift issue on joycons would be nice too
Nintendo: WE’VE DONE EVERYTHING WE CAN TO ENGAGE OUR CUSTOMERS
Gamers: sure wish some of your old games weren’t full price still.
Nintendo: *cries in frustration*
Gamers: releasing good Pokemon games would be cool too…

Well they could start by getting rid of that stupid “release a barebones game and release free DLC over a short period of time” bullshit model they did to Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf Super Strikers and Mario Strikers Battle League. Make the games have a lot of content from the start!!!
FoxyDude915
I’d be hella engaged with a localized official release of Mother 3.
Just sayin

The ignorance won’t care about Nintendo in the long term. They’re currently riding on a wave of people who grew up with Nintendo and trying to charm themselves for a brand new generation. It’s going well, but Furukawa is astute in believing that nothing can be taken for granted, especially the more saturated gaming becomes, and how easy it becomes to access other instant entertainment through various internet activities.

By eradicating the dread of the inevitable joy-con drift that is always on the minds of Switch users every time they touch the system.
MarvelManiac45213
IMO he shouldn’t have to worry Nintendo has done an amazing job this year (and throughout most of the Switchs life 2018 and 2020 not withstanding) of having a consistent steady release schedule.
I mean look at this year:
– Fire Emblem Engage
– Kirbys Return to Dreamland Deluxe
– Advance Wars 1 + 2 Reboot Camp
– Bayonetta Origins
– Metroid Prime: Remastered
– The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
– Everybody 1-2 Switch
– Pikmin 4
– Pikmin 1 + 2 Ports
– Wario Ware: Move it
– Detective Pikachu Returns
– Super Mario RPG Remake
– Super Mario Bros. Wonder
– Mario Kart 8 DLC Waves 3-6
– Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed DLC
– Pokemon Scarlet/Violet DLC
^ I mean if you aren’t engaged after all of this maybe Nintendo Switch isn’t the system for you anymore.
Not to mention things like Super Nintendo World and the Super Mario Bros. Movie also helping people stay engaged with the brand.
VancouverVelocityFan
Give me a port of Super Mario Galaxy 2, ports of all 4 Mario Kart Arcade games, a new F-Zero, a full port of Mario Kart Tour and a brand new Mario Kart game and I’ll engage with Furukawa so much I’ll be having tea parties with him every day.

Nintendo is the only company I’m not bored of but they’ve gotten too comfortable and safe in making games, and too obsessed with simplifying. And their English translations are THE WORST. I mean, not as bad as that one ending in elder ring meaning something totally different in Japanese but still pretty bad.
Also doing things like uploading music on streaming or bringing more old games back would be good too. Providing quality updates to games, not that they’re all bad but literally all they have to do is listen to fans.
twelfthcapaldi
Idk about y’all but I’m overwhelmed with all of the choices on the Switch. There’s so many games but I only have so much time. It’s a good problem to have, but sometimes I feel paralyzed by all the choices so I just don’t choose anything :/
Gingy1000
I say next switch model have an extra screen and have the extra screen solely have subway surfers gameplay on it, no game can override it it’s subway surfers
