Tencent being more than Nintendo and Microsoft combined is so insane.
YUGIOH-KINGOFGAMES
Fun fact: In the 1980’s, Japan owned 90% of the video game market with Nintendo being the biggest player by far. It was similar in the 1990’s. Then the 2000’s happened as it seems like Japanese dominance has waned.
Microsoft bought Activision for what? $70 billion and Nintendo’s market cap is $55 billion. Epic Games market cap is $30 billion and not far behind Nintendo.

Out of curiosity, how much does each of these companies invest in themselves with the profits they so they can continue making games and stuff
encreturquoise
And they only have about 7500 employees worldwide
Dry_Ass_P-word
Huh. 4th sounds low tbh.

Sadly their games don’t reflect that.

That’s because Nintendo’s an entertainment company, not a video game company.
Just like how Apple’s more of a fashion brand.

I looked it up cause I was like 15.1 seems low. Pokemon made 11 billion in 2022 alone.
Doesn’t Nintendo basically own all of the Pokemon company? Or most of it and then they also own most of Game Freak

Ehhh microsoft and sony arent big because of their games. Theyre giga corps that have done literally other stuff other than games.
Nintendo is really the only gaming company that solely has made the vast majority of their fortune off of video games and stuff related to those games. Idk why people compare them when nintendos clearly the biggest solely gaming company

Thats a lot of revenue from bad games, crazy. sorry meant tencent.

The article is riddled with issues.
First, it makes its own estimates in addition to reported numbers.
Second, it does not include hardware.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Nintendo is an absolute behemoth not because of their net worth alone but rather because of how their net worth is different compared to other companies. Nintendo has (take this with a grain of salt) most of their capital in LIQUID. A lot of companies tend to have their capital tied up in debt or acquisitions or etc. Nintendo have most of their net worth in cold hard cash. When the Wii-U became the failure it was, so many people harkened this as the “end of Nintendo” not realizing that Nintendo would have to make and fail 10 console generations before they could go bankrupt. It’s why when the report came out that Xbox wanted to buy Nintendo, and was squandering their potential people laughed. A lot of people might disagree but the results speak for themselves, just look at the switch. That bad boy is like $1 hotcakes after work, selling like crazy and still good enough to keep coming back for more.
TLDR: Nintendo has most of their net worth in liquid cash and has very small if any debts. They could try and fail 10 console generation and still not be bankrupt. Nintendo is super OP.

What does Tencent own. holy shtt

..Yet joy-con drift is still a thing.
If an Atari controller built in the 70’s can still be working, made to last however long, (to say nothing of Nintendo’s own hardware, NES Super Nintendo and their respective controllers)
Then these modern controllers such as the JoyCons, built with modern technology absolutely can be.
$15.1 billion at their disposal and drift is a problem this badly widespread across the globe. Put some of that dough towards redesigning the damn things and fix it Nintendo. C’mon.

I don’t want to ever see a “Nintendo should” comment on Reddit again.

Revenue is neat. Profit matters.
