Well I’d like to read the article, but it says I have to subscribe to read, so that’s not happening.

The title is total clickbait. It worked on me because I was like, “What? No, TotK does not have the single best hour in the Zelda series, what on Earth are they talking about?” They never specify what that hour is!

The interview is very interesting, but the article is awfully grandiose. I love BotW, it is a Top 15 game of all time for me, but the author of this article acts like it is a second coming that is a bigger deal than it actually is, jeez. There are other Zelda games that are just as good as BotW. In particular, I did not care for the dismissive way the author talked about Zelda 1.

Anyway, some points of interest for me:

    * Hard confirmation there will be no TotK DLC
    * They considered having Skyloft among the sky islands, but ultimately chose not to (why?????)
    * Contrary to a lot of the narrative around BotW and TotK, interestingly it was not designed to stand out from other open world games at all. The devs just made the open world game they always wanted to play that innovated on the Zelda series as usual, this time by making an open air Zelda game.
    * The sky, caves, and Depths were all designed to emphasize different aspects of gameplay (joy, exploration, and tension respectively).
    * Cuccos tell you if you are near a Yiga imposter!!! Who knew?
    * When BotW was designed, the main gimmick the devs wanted to focus on was “freedom.” For TotK, it was “creativity.”
    * Aonuma likes the ugly modular house aesthetic, ha ha. Also, he likes to build the house facing the sea so he can watch the sun set! Very charming. (I of course always have my house face the nearby Shrine and Tarry Town for peak efficiency.)

  3. Call me crazy but I don’t think a rehash of the previous game in the series should count as it’s “finest hour”.

“Zelda was getting stale! We needed to spice things up with something *new*!”

-Proceeds to laud the least inspired “sequel” as Zelda’s “finest hour”

It was just BOTW DLC, in many cases literally content from BOTW dlc
