bringing back speakeasies but instead of alcohol, its gamecubes

  2. Nintendo: You may host a tournament using our games if you apply for a license

Nintendo: You may not have a license also you’re a criminal and you’re not allowed to sell food or water at your event

  3. > Please note that Nintendo does not currently grant permission for individuals to organise commercial tournaments. We ask for your understanding

They really just please understand’d us.

Reading through these, a lot of the provisions they ask for are relatively understandable. But then you get bangers like:
    > In addition, Nintendo games may not be used for Community Tournaments that: …Have sponsors or that advertise or promote any entity, products or services

    What a joke.

  4. So if someone makes a tournament at his own house and offer food but everyone has to pay their share, ao Nintendo will send their ninjas? Damn

fuck nintendo you’ll have to pry my crt from my cold dead hands

Man, this sucks if it’s actually enforced. No characters/logos/IPs used in branding, 200 entrant limit, no food/refreshments/merch, no sponsors, prize pool is capped above a certain number… Like, every Smash Bros tournament that mentions “Smash” in the title and has a graphic with any characters is officially fucked if these rules are enforced whatsoever.

[This is the breakdown of the Japanese announcement](https://x.com/VicVuci/status/1716820813784178950?s=20), which is in line with the other announcements (aside from currency).

one day I hope to change my flair but it certainly won’t be today

They had to. Nintendo was having waaaaay too much positive PR lately releasing all these bangers, Mario not having a deadline, paper mario and so on… They had to balance the scales reminding everyone they’re also dicks.

At the end of the day, it’s their products and they can do what they want with them

  10. pruitcake

Scummy as always but I can’t really comprehend how they would even go about enforcing any of this. I feel like its just bluffing like no way can they stop a whole community from doing what they love.

I think this is overblown and people are overreacting as usual. These new guidelines are just what you have to do if you want Nintendo to sponsor a tournament.

Nintendo isn’t going to sue a high school charity tournament for putting a picture of Link on a poster printed out on copier paper. This is to go after people making a serious profit off the back of Nintendo IPs.

    “Don’t do it.”

JK I haven’t read it yet

    Nintendo can fuck right off.

They really pissed me off. Not only am I considering boycotting, I’m considering making videos on how to get their next Nintendo game 10 days before release day. Just to piss them off.

  14. CrazyHand958

yeah just screw nintendo fr. it can only get WORSE from here…

Most people are overeacting. Most events arent affected by this at all. You cant make a profit off of their property without a license is what they are saying. Majors and big tournaments are not affected since they are licensed. The most legitimate concern is Melee which most likely has to do with the whole mod issue.
