TLDR;
Developer pitched game idea, money giver said no funding.

I kind of get it. Nintendo does their own thing and doesn’t chase trends or copy others (generally). Refusing to play portal as a primer for a demo inspired by portal aligns with that. It sucks that it never came to fruition, but Metroid Prime was a fair trade off. Perhaps Adept could be finished and released by another studio, or its ideas merged into portal 3 or another game.

A portal gun ability for a Metroid Prime game would be cool
SuperHuman64
Well i heard that if there was one game Miyamoto wishes he made it was Portal. That was late 2000s i think. Perhaps they changed their tune once they saw Portal themselves.
Retros ideas always get shot down they never had a chance on making their own game.

So they pitched an idea and it didn’t get funding? Probably something that happens to every Nintendo studio on a yearly basis. Probably something that happens to every studio in general

probably nintendo don’t want to make a clone of another game.

Retro is an interesting one, they seem to get a lot of games canceled but every time they get a game out the door, it’s incredible

Funny this comes out the same week Sakurai [posted a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYuvggptkDM) specifically saying *not* to pitch games by making comparisons to other games.

Interesting, I also canned a game because Nintendo “didn’t get it”. (I sent them an email to ask them to pay me to make Minecraft but with Mario characters and they didn’t respond)

If Nintendo didn’t understand it, it was probably a bad pitch.

Is it bad that I hope Aspect makes it’s way into Prime 4? It feels like a natural fit to me.

If they made a portal-like game on Switch, I have a feeling people would be melting Switches with the crazy things you could do in those games.

Every time I see something like this it makes me think of how good Retro is and how it’s criminal they’ve only out out 5 games in like 20 years.

Can’t find the interview but in this one he calls it “an amazing game”
