Still my favorite Mario Kart ever. Everything about this game was perfect.
Bigmomma_pump
It should be a game mode in the next mario kart. And character specific items isn’t a bad idea although there’s so many characters in mario kart now it isn’t feasible

Make Double Dash 2 you cowards!!!!!

Aged beautifully without a doubt. I think DD is the direction the franchise needs to go next. A MK DD with improved roster, better graphics etc.

7.9 -IGN
EDIT: this score was a huge controversy at the time and had nintendo fanboys looking for pitchforks. I remember on the IGN forums that if any good game got a perceived low score, it was “7.9’d”

I love DD but 64 will always be my jam.

The problem with Double Dash is that a lot of character-specific items were better than others. Which led to people fighting over who got to play as the characters with the best items. If they had a system like Smash Bros, where multiple players could select the same character and it’d just change color, or something, that’d be perfect. Sadly, the game does not have this.
In my household, everyone wanted to play as Paratroopa (triple red shells is great!), but only one person could do so. It was a shame that we couldn’t all pick our favorites.

It didn’t really transform the series, since DD was a one-off and they haven’t returned to the formula.
I personally didn’t like the feel of the game, I’m not sure if it was the double riders or what but the driving didn’t feel as good.

Still my favorite Mario Kart

I am in a stage of life where I want more games I can play cooperatively with my wife, kids, and friends, especially if those games can be competitive coop games that are simple to jump into.

I would kill for another double dash

Double Dash!! really nailed the controls. Not even Mario Kart 8 feels quite as good when it comes to driving. I always thought the ability to have two players per kart was really nice because it made it more accessible for friends who wanted to participate but weren’t big gamers.
I know some people hate the character-specific items, and that’s valid, but I kind of find the race to get the characters you like fun. It also doesn’t matter as much. Of course everyone wants triple red shells, but they’re easy-enough to dodge that I think the game ultimately ends up balanced.

DD remaster or successor? Fuck it. Mario Kart Triple Dash.
DoubleE55
I know it’s got it fans but from someone who has been playing since 64 it was a letdown for me. DD and Wii were the dark ages for console MK. Loved DS and didn’t really like a console MK till I poured my life in 8

One of my favorite racing games of all time.

Double dash is and always will be my favorite of all mario karts. The tracks, abilities, speed of the races, the switching and making coop crazy fun. Man what a game that was. It took real skill to play that and also dodging freaking red shells was awesome!

This game holds up so well! Easily my favorite Mario Kart game. Really helped me work on my shell throwing timing and drifting.

Am I the only person who remembers how much people hated on this game back when it first came out? Kinda Windwaker style – but yeah Mario Kart needs a shakeup again

What I would give to have a Double Dash on the next system with these pairings:
-Mario & Luigi
-Peach & Daisy
-Wario & Waluigi
-Yoshi & Birdo (w/ color options)
-Toad & Toadette
-Bowser & Bowser jr.
-Rosalina & Pauline
-Toadsworth & E. Gadd
-King Boo & King Bob-Omb
-Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong
-Koopa Troopa & Dry Bones
-Shy Guy & Snift (w/ color options)
-Nabbit & Monty Mole
-Gooper Blooper & Petey Piranha
-Link & Zelda (that’s right)
-Plum & Iris (creating new Wario/waluigi counterparts for Peach & Daisy, and, yes, reappropriating the name Plum to a new character)

Double Dash 2 please

I mean did it really? They haven’t repeated the gimmick since then.

The introduction of Toadette. Nothing says eat my dust quite like pink pigtails flying in the wind.

Definitely transformed it to the point of never using the mechanic again for 20 years

My controversial opinion is that this was the first genuinely good Mario Kart game.
MK on SNES and 64 were good for their time but started showing their age very quickly after release, both graphically and controls wise (and the less said about the slippery controls of the GBA game the better). DD was the first one that absolutely nailed Kart controls in 3D, set the standard for where the series was going, and is still a treat to go back to today in a way that isn’t just nostalgia.
