It’s only the games that are casual friendly.

He did not say much about his career at Nintendo so I assume that, he might be under heavy of peer pressure like alot.
grantdotyea
I mean I would assume that a lot of well-known companies that have extremely high standards are like this from the inside, they don’t get where they are with average people doing average things
Who_Vintude
Good…average persons have infiltrated Xbox and Playstation and a lot of it’s horribly mediocre.

Good. Normals belong in low jobs, someone needs to clean the floors after all. Keep real work to people with real talent.
I can’t wait for the day they can be cut out of society entirely.

The article doesn’t go in depth on what exactly his responsibilities were at Nintendo other than ‘working in game production’ but if you managed to land a job at Nintendo producing games then it’s very likely he was not simply an ‘average person’. I can only imagine how insanely competitive it is to even be considered for a job like that.

Everyone in this thread assuming they would fall into the ‘genius’ category because they played a critically acclaimed game and enjoyed it.

Tbh every story about the great Nintendo games features work conditions that would drive most people to quit.

I would imagine that’s the same for most of the giant tech companies.

The average person probably has a better grasp on servers and internet connectivity. Obviously they are jealous.

Ultimately it’s many people’s dream job and this is typically what the environment is like in those kinds of job.
I’m sure you get people saying the exact same about working at NASA or Google.

The article also states the person has no ill will towards Nintendo.
ChipSteezy
I feel like Nintendo has Disney Imagineer level of geniuses working on games like TOTK and Wonder and so many others. Nintendo constantly blows my mind with how they are coming up with new and unique gameplay mechanics for each of their games
echoess84
Nintendo is one of the biggest software house in the world and th quality of its games is really high so I think work at Nintendo could be “hell for an average person” because there are big expectations and the people who works there could think of be not being up to par

Nintendo isn’t doing anything overly complicated so no idea why average person would have issues.

It’s obvious the bar must be insanely high to work there. I also think the author is undervaluing themselves and quite possibly had a bit of imposter syndrome.
I mean hell I work as a designer and i think it’s normal to doubt yourself. Anything creative, you’re going to feel that way.

Dude needs to calm down. This notion of “geniuses” is damaging, looks like they’re already a victim of it. People just get skilled at their job if they’re able to take it seriously. Work-life balance is way more important than worshipping your coworkers. It’s even more important than any “geniuses” who are sacrificing their lives outside of work to bring value to the company

This might be an unpopular opinion, but this applies for just about every single industry, market, or sector that exists. Apart from nepotism or favoritism, the best and brightest usually rise to the top of any team, unit, or company.
HotWingus
Suddenly a lot of Nintendo’s weird decisions make sense. They likely kowtow to the top employees, who basically make unilateral decisions about how their game “should” be played. Ninty can’t say no and neither can their coworkers, so weird choices get pushed through.

The article content conveys a different message than the headline. Probably an accident!

Well yeah 95% of their games are masterpieces. They don’t mess around, if you cant hang its over lol

Makes sense, say what you want about Nintendo but I would say their consistency of quality for first party games is at the top. Yes, they do lazy titles like Mario sports titles and remasters but they are never buggy, just lacking at times. TotK being given an extra year after completion to make sure everything runs the way it should shows their dedication to make quality.
You need a lot of smart people to have the steady flow of quality games they make.

The entire gaming industry is hell for most people. Period. I can’t begin to describe what a toxic hell-hole 11 out of 12 companies in that space are in practice. I am an avid gamer, that ended up winning the job lottery, or so I thought at the time, but after too many years in the sector I broke free (long time ago mind you), and have been warning people to not ever turn this particular hobby in to their job, unless they love to suffer. Nintendo is no different.

The bar has been pushed substantially higher for ALL tech jobs in the last 5 years. The days of the ‘average’ tech worker able to coast into a huge paying job with little responsibility are gone. The corporations have micro managed every detail of your day with agile/Jira and they only want the best and brightest.
