  1. Switch had a great year. Also on the list are Mario Wonder (#4), Pikmin 4, MP remake, FE:Engage.

You know? It’s nice that we have Tears of the Kingdom. I know some have said they are disappointed with it. (Perhaps it didn’t live up to their expectations) And there are some that say they absolutely love it. But can’t we all agree that it was pretty well made, they still put passion into it and there are some pretty dang good moments. (That first decent into the depths was one of those good moments for me! I had no idea what to expect, I’m falling down this dark abyss and that sound design with that descending brass blast…. Whoa! Haha! Still gives me chills remembering the first time) It’s ok if you disagree. I’m just glad that we have it. Great addition to the Switch lineup. Nope, the story ain’t perfect. Yep, they completely ignore some lore from other games. Yep, it’s not as industry changing as Ocarina, yes it’s not as revolutionary as Breath of the Wild was. Maybe it’s a bit too similar to it’s predecessor game… But in its own right, it’s still pretty well made, with enough to make it engaging and no one can deny they polished it pretty well. Overall, I think it deserves to be recognized as a great game.

Somebody lists their favorite games of the year, and we say that the top favorite “wins Game of the Year.” It’s just a person’s opinion, guys.

My (tentative) favorite games this year were…

    1. Pikmin 4
    2. TotK
    3. The Legend of Zelda: The Sealed Palace
    4. Baldur’s Gate 3
    5. Hogwarts Legacy

OMG, guys, “Pikmin 4 won Dreyfus2006’s Game of the Year!!!”

This reminds me of the Golden Joystick Awards (*I think*) rewarding **Hades** for Best Game of 2020 when there were others games like TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima, FF7R and Animal Crossing New Horizons.

    To each their own ^_^

This year is just impossible to narrow to just one game. It’s like they need your typical 3rd Bronze, 2nd Silver and 1st Gold positions to make it right :p

  5. I haven’t played BG3 so can’t weigh in on the top spot, but so happy to see Pikmin 4 so high up. It perfected its formula and surpassed it in a load of unexpected and fun ways. Massively well deserved!

  6. BG3 should have won it! TofK was fun but it was rinse and repeat with a crafting element.

Kinda disappointed that Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp didn’t make the list. But ah well. Great list all in all.

  8. Spoksparkare

Fully deserved, great game. BG3 is really niche

A single game being game of the year is still such a funny concept to me.

A year with nothing but 70/100’s, a 80/100 could be the game of the year.

    A year of nothing but 90/100’s, a 97 could lose to a 98.

But that 97 would crush the 80 from the previous year. But one won GOTY and the other didn’t.

This has been an amazing year for games, I don’t think anyone should get salty if one really well made game edges out another. Because having to crown a single game is just silly anyways.

Really feels like they underrated lies of p, overrated starfield, and overrated mario wonder. Can always count on polygon to put a game like jusant in top 10 lol.

  11. Clemenx00

Silly them, don’t they know it is basically a BOTW copy paste?

  12. Is anyone surprised? BOTW was an all-time top video game, and TOTK made it look like a tech demo

  13. Zelda is really good so I’m super happy about this.

  14. HandMeMyThinkingPipe

I feel like I’m being gaslit by the people who suddenly hate tears of the kingdom like did we all play the same game?

  15. I’m sorry, it was a great game, but giving it GOTY with all its performance hiccups…

  16. FinalOdyssey

It’s a well made game, and one of the best Zelda stories. However there are some baseline, foundational decisions I highly did not agree with and that’s why I wasn’t as into it as others seemed to be. I was disappointed in the world – a relatively small floating section, the same overworld (but slightly different) as BOTW, and a more tedious and *almost* entirely optional underground area.

While yes the underground was cool that it even existed, I just wish they had focused efforts on a whole new world.
