This is something that basically all competitive Pokémon players do, by the way. Basically no one participating in the competitive scene legitimately raised their Pokémon from wild-caught or egg-hatched sources.

Game Freak really should make a “competitive mode” with a granular team editor if they don’t want people to do this.

Oh? He was selling them? That’s a no no in Japan.

    >The 36-year-old allegedly took custom orders for rare Pokémon, *and sold the resulting tampered data* between December 2022 to March 2023

    And there you go.

It’s rather silly that police time is spent on this kind of nonsense, isn’t it?

This is a matter between the developers and the players, the mere suggestion of bringing the police into it is something that should be met with raucous, mocking laughter, but they actually have police officers arrest somebody for… pokemon hustling?

    Selling modded Pokémon..

“I’m sorry sir, I’ll leave you alone.”

Would this be legal in the US, for someone to buy the game modify it then resell it.

Apparently, modding software is highly illegal in Japan.

Also, knowing that Nintendo is one of Japan’s biggest companies makes you think that there has to be government collusion.

So, when I used a Game Genie to catch all 151 in Yellow, that would have been illegal in Japan? That’s stupid.
