I think maybe my only gripe is that the ground/floor is really shiny. They’re going for a diorama effect, but not even the “grass” in Origami King was shiny.

Nintendo, I’m going to buy it. Leave me alone now.

Looks decent but I’d like to see a comparison with TTYD on dolphin using texture packs. From what I’ve seen Switch wins with backgrounds but dolphin wins with most redrawn textures, the switch ones are of ok quality imo.

Have never played TTYD and VERY MUCH looking forward to the Remake/Remaster, whatever it is.

Any actual difference in gameplay? Or is emulation of original release more or less the same?

They should’ve changed the combat to the most recent paper Mario .

    Said no one ever

Oh shit the bar has it’s own music now instead of just playing the Rogueport theme, that is awesome!

Between 30 fps and the censorship applied to this version i lost any interest i had in this remake. I’ll stick with the original if i want to make another playthrough in the future.

I didn’t notice before, but the original has no lighting source at all. Mario and company always looks the same regardless if the place was dark (Like the bar) or very sunny (Like Petal Meallows). The Remake looks much more lively thanks to this.

Also many former 2D elements like Trees and Bushes were flat 2D before are now 3D. It’s like going from a flat storybook to one that features a diorama.

This is clearly a from the ground up remake. I am absolutely floored.

I feel like a nob. I was one of the crusaders talking about how this game should have been 60 fps, there’s no excuse for it to be 30 fps, etc etc.

But upon further examination, I think the art style and the way the characters move somehow makes it much harder to tell that it’s 30 fps. If you told me this was 60 fps, I actually would have a very hard time figuring out you were wrong. And I feel really dumb for being so mean to the game for that reason.

The game looks beautiful. And it looks like the good kind of 30 fps where it is seemingly locked to 30 and not dipping at all (at least for these segments) and has perfect frame pacing so it doesn’t feel choppy (looking at you, Spyro: Re-Ignited, and I think Kirby: Star Allies). And the graphical changes for the most part seem superior. Though I do feel in some areas there is a lack of vibrancy where I prefer the GameCube’s interpretation.

Credit where it’s due, I personally concede that 30 fps doesn’t matter to me in this case. Game looks great. 60 fps still would have been awesome and I’m still confused why they couldn’t make it work (I know about it being built on the Origami King engine and all that, but still). But I’m not averse to the game’s framerate anymore. Just confused.

This is one of the greatest games of all time. If you’re not sure if you’re down to check it out I recommend trying the N64 game. This game is an absolutely perfect sequel to that.
