Nintendo’s approach to physical has been odd this generation. All the stores that stock games where I live have certain games take many months to come back in stock, and some just never do. I asked someone about it and apparently Nintendo just doesn’t supply like they used to.
I imagine they really like that the secondhand market for Nintendo games isn’t much cheaper than buying new, and limiting physical would help that.

And now I am rich. Muahahaha!

They’re apparently stopping physical production of a lot of their games now or very soon. Another big one is Odyssey.
Limp_Diamond4162
It’s just for a limited time till they print new ones with plays on switch 2
Wakuwaku7
Had it sealed for a long time and suddenly had the urge to play it recently. Ffs.
Wrong_Revolution_679
Probably going to have a nintendo selection for this and others like it
chicopancho_
Good.

Makes sense. Fairly niche game from 4 years ago. Sales have probably been stagnant for a while now. Studios often stop printing games a few years after they’ve been out
bwburke94
Serves it right, as an insult to the series we used to know and love.
Surge90s
Good.

This game didn’t have strong legs (3.47 million copies).
Super Mario RPG on Switch is about to surpass it after just a few months of being out (3.31 million units).

It wasn’t terrible but wasn’t a huge fan of the battle rings. Cool at first then got old fast. I have yet to even open Sticker Star Story which I hear is a bigger tragedy.

This is probably one of my favorite games. First PM game. The characters, world, story. It was genuinely pretty beautiful in those aspects.
I’m seriously gonna miss even if it basically died when it was released and people tried the battle system.

All the scalpers liked this

I really hope the TTYD remake gets them to drop the gimmicky puzzle battles and move back to standard RPG battles.

That game peaks in the first third and then it’s a slog.

It’s not just Paper Mario. A lot of Nintendo games eventually stop being printed. Like try looking for Clubhouse Games which sold a lot more than Paper Mario, you can’t really get it anywhere.
FlamboyantGayWhore
darn, was thinking of picking it up eventually but now i need to get it asap

I really enjoyed playing this game with my son, the world looked awesome and they did a really good job with the animations. Sure the battle system got tedious but the game is still really polished and well done.

Super underrated game. Happy I got my copy.
ToxicTammy42
I’m glad I still have my physical copy.
silverfaustx
I always see dozens of used copies of this game
moodgamernick

rwood1020
Just saw a stack of these at target in the clearance section

To be fair, most games’ physical copies are discontinued.
deramirez25
I got as a gift last Christmas. Lol
Pickle_yanker
You think with the remake paper Mario game releasing soon, that this game would get a lift in sales. Discontinue at a later time.
Rachelisapoopy
It’s a shame that Origami King didn’t crush it in sales, it just did alright. I guess after Sticker Star and Color Splash, alright is a great outcome, but having played Origami King, I feel it was a very high quality game and am sad more people haven’t played it.

Well looks like price gon go up

colour me surprised
Boring_Shape_3216
I hated this game, I remember getting so frustrated at the stupid battle sequence with moving the circles on the floor. I agree with this move.
PedanticPaladin
Kind of points to the lack of a Player’s Choice/Greatest Hits label doesn’t it.
Supah_Cole
I guess you could say that its shelf life has folded

why stop making physical media when alot of people want it
superabby64
Good. This game is terrible. Whoever thought to make an RPG without RPG mechanics should go back to the drawing board.
Zanoss10
Well every game eventually got its physical copies discontinued lol
Even very popular games
renaissance_m4n
I don’t think there’s an rpg with combat mechanics I hate more than this game. I’m an old school Mario RPG fan and this game’s combat was endlessly tedious. And the character “designs” on the bosses were laughable (not in a good way). I would have stopped playing it entirely if my kids didn’t want to see the story play out.

Am I the only one who didn’t think of cartridges when reading this for paper Mario specifically?
DaNoahLP
Oh no.
Anyway.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo are preparing something like a Nintendo Selects budget line. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of a first-party title going OOP, and with the Switch near the end of its life, it could be a way to give one last boost to sales.

I remember getting mine a day before the official release and i was so hyped. Still haven’t finished the game due to time constraints – sadly. Its a pretty good game!
