New Pokémon Snap was officially released in China on July 16th, 2024. This is the first ever Pokémon game officially released China after the console ban in 2000, with Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!/Let’s Go, Eevee! preparing for release.

Then what was all the hubbub about Sun and Moon being the first ones translated into Traditional and SImpified Chinese and also them being so infuriatingly handholdy because it would be most chinese players’ first Pokémon games?

Why was there a console ban in china?
I dated a Chinese international student throughout College who was a HUUUGE Pokemon fan so all my knowledge could just be her perspective and not actually fact but, Pokemon is still quite popular without it officially being sold in large capacity in China.
I found out most people would import the games/consoles through Hong Kong or Taiwan. But mostly Hong Kong. I remember her saying Sword and Shield was so hard to import at launch (selling out too fast) she took a flight to Hong Kong just so she could buy a digital version, download it and then go home.
Nowadays Markets like Taobao have made importing and buying so much easier. Glad to see their market opening up a bit.
Ah, the whole Pokemon machine is about to gain billions of extra dollars a year.
How much of that money do you think will go into developing mainline games?
