Hiding in the shadows at the Battle Rally (Dark + Kalos upgrade, 9,550 pts) [Pokemon Masters EX]

0:00 – Free upgrade + Pattern

Dark’s pretty okay – I’m missing a few units but my roster’s not that bad. And unlike HSE, I can still manage with an incomplete roster here. That said, the pattern this week is one of the worst, so lol. I was excited since I had three Dark-type units with EX roles unlocked, but none of them could give the x2 multiplier with the pattern I got.

0:10 – Sprint + Field vs. Dark-weak Will: EX Volo / Rei / EX Riley

Area 1 Sprint + Field has two possibilities. The first is a Sprint-heavy pattern that gives me little room to work with in terms of multipliers. The second is one of those patterns that goes through almost every role combo, which gives me several opportunities for multiplier bonuses.

Guess which one I got.

2:06 – Sprint + Strike vs. Verdant Guardian Battle Challenge: EX-R SS Gladion / EX Karen / EX Lodge Calem

Karen’s a pretty fun unit for Rally as she has a lot of utility for a Strike unit, which makes her a good pick for role combos like this. I brought Lodge Calem since the stage has Acute Senses but in hindsight, I guess I was anticipating the second upgrade bonus I’d be purchasing lol

3:38 – Sprint + Tech vs. Steel-weak Glacia: EX Summer Tate / EX Lodge Cheren / EX Palentines Serena

This combo repeats thrice in this pattern so I’m saving best boy and Classic Elesa for the later areas. I once again used a Kalos unit here – what in the foreshadowing?

5:47 – Field + Support vs. Flying-weak Hala: EX-R SS Morty / EX-R Variety Thorton / EX-R Mix Blue

Big tangent, but do you think we’re getting SS Kris’s EX role next month, and is it also gonna be Field? I sure hope so – she’d be my third for this role combo if ever (unless a rival releases with this combo before her haha).

8:30 – Sprint + Strike vs. Raihan’s Battle Challenge (Severely Strained Relations): EX-R NC Silver / EX NC Marnie / EX Spring May

I got the two other Battle Challenges of this event last week so I guess it’s fitting I get the third this week. I have a feeling NC Marnie’s gonna get this role combo in the future.

10:25 – Kalos Upgrade purchase

I was planning on using NC Serena in Area 10 (stage permitting), so I decided to make this purchase as a safety net. Thought it would also help me for Area 7 since I don’t have any Dark units with the Strike + Support combo, but I do have a Kalos one.

10:40 – Sprint + Tech vs. Ghost-weak Caitlin: EX-R Tierno / EX-R Anni Lillie / Classic Elesa

Kalos Upgrade also means that both Tierno and NC Calem give double bonuses, so yay.

12:18 – Strike + Support vs. Travelers of a Distant Past Battle Challenge: EX-R Emma / EX-R NC Bianca / EX-R NC Blue

This stage was meant for Adaman and Irida, which means it’s quite annoying, but thankfully it doesn’t hit as hard as more modern Battle Challenges. Was able to get around the sand uptime with all the sustain from Blue.

16:09 – Sprint + Field vs. Poison-weak Blue: EX-R Geeta / EX-R Akari / EX DC Wally

So glad this is an easy stage, and one that has a good on-type unit too. I got DC Wally’s second copy this week and I’m excited to try out his 3/5 grid next week.

17:44 – Sprint + Tech vs. Fairy-weak Bruno: EX-R SS Wally / EX-R SS Hau / EX-R NC Calem

Another Fairy-weak stage on a Sprint + Tech area? DeNA are SS Wally fans confirmed. I didn’t use his B Move in case I needed him for the next stage.

19:33 – Sprint + Support vs. Lucy: EX-R NC Serena / EX-R Paulo / EX-R NC Rosa

Good thing that Kalos Upgrade purchase paid off. All three options for me were Lucy, which is probably the best stage to get a triple appearance of. This still took a bit of resetting but I finally got enough potions to see it through.
