Game Boy came out exactly five years before I was born (Today I turn 30 years old).

I was 6 years old 35 years ago. And I got a Gameboy that first christmas since it’s release. At the time of its end, it was the console I owned the most games for during g it’s actually life cycle. I have tons more for other consoles now, and of course I’ve had tons more for modern consoles.
But I had just over 30 Gameboy games before the Gameboy color released and they stopped making normal gb games. Most other consoles I only had like 10-15 games during their actual life until the PS2 era.
But that was mostly because I rented games a LOT as a kid, usually 2-3 games a week for 2 decades. Lol

You know how kids these days will go “THATS what phones looked like?” That was kid me looking at my older cousins OG gameboy.

I was 14 and huge Nintendo fan, but I didn’t get one until my aunt sent me one for Christmas like 3 or 4 yrs after it came out and I still have it.
I hate playing on it, lol. I even have the light and magnifying window. I play the games on my SNES Super Gameboy. And man Super Mario Land is crazy with the 3 different designs for the 3 versions.

5 years old. Had the Game Boy. Then a clip on battery pack unit. Then the giant magnifying glass and light third party attachment. Stuff back then was wild. Spent many nights playing Super Mario Land 2 and Metroid 2 with that really crappy light.

Got it for Christmas… I was 13. The Genesis was also sought after that holiday season but I locked in on the Game Boy instead because Nintendo is Nintendo. My folks got me the unit, Super Mario Land and the extended battery pack you clipped on your belt. I have fond memories of walking about during a fancy Christmas party my folks were hosting as if I was serving hors d’oeuvres to guests but instead of food it was a round of Tetris to see how many lines they could get.
With the battery pack still clipped to my belt I’d I’d hand over the foreign looking device to onlookers and they’d try to beat the last line score.
I got really sick that holiday break from a cold and had a pretty high fever. I have this core memory of falling in and out of consciousness with the Mario Land music playing in my mind with a stuffy nose and a massive headache haunted me for a while. Something so pleasant had suddenly turned into a nauseating ‘trigger.’ BTW, we didn’t have that word back then….’trigger’. I’m over it now and can play Super Mario Land without issue.
