This is normal during a transitional period between consoles. Pretty decent results all things considered and with the new hardware launching soon, they will have a big boost.

Stopped buying games for Switch years ago. Nothing of interest and shitty ports for too long. Sure some good flagship 1st party bits here and there but I find them to be increasingly shitty at what they do and how they treat their fans.
I look forward to you baby down votes, baby! 😭😂🤣😂

But if they are wise and make sure the next console is backwards compatible to the Switch… It’ll print money. So many adults even have switches thanks to COVID lock down. That’s a lot of adults with expendable income also buying games. Keep it rolling guys.

My friend’s wife wanted to get him a switch for Christmas. I insisted she find him a used one since they have never dropped in price and the system is 7 years old.
She ended up finding him a deal for $450 that came with like half a dozen games including smash Bros, his favorite, and a pro controller.
What I’m saying is that if you’re buying a new switch now days you’re throwing money away.

In gaming, once you acknowledge new hardware is coming then sales of the old machines will slow down. When they announced that a Switch successor was coming within 12 month in an investor call, this was the expected outcome. Also last year had TotK and Mario Wonder. This year’s game line up, whilst good, definitely feels like end of era products.

Oh no!
Anyways….

Well, yes, it’s *seven* years old and the market is only so big.

For me it’s more that Nintendo is waiting on releasing major games for the next console than me waiting for the next console.

Please dethrone PS2 to become the best seller of all time. Please.

One of the arguments for not announcing switch 2 yet was that they don’t want to hurt sales of the current Gen. I don’t understand why they wait so long, now sales are already declining. They should just announce it, everybody knows the switch 2 is coming, so just show what you got in store.

I believe that the Switch was supposed to serve as a “reboot” for Nintendo, but after Iwata’s passing the company became unsure of itself. Hence the current 7 year lifespan of the Switch, riding on 10 year old software like MK8 and many Wii U ports, such as Breath of the Wild. As we all know their console generations have always gone through 5 year cycles.
The switch really is essentially the same thing as the Wii U, just improved on: a reboot. Nintendo did the unthinkable and took their least successful flagship and transformed it into possibly the most successful console of all time. For the past several years, it has been the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to either churn out software for the fans and profit or finally go back to focusing on cutting edge hardware and graphics after recovering from several generations of defeat by Sony. They’re done neither after 7 years.
Nintendo has always been frugal and stubborn, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen them play it this safe during a console generation as far as restricting themselves with their creative output and putting a stronghold on their vault of what is basically the most valuable IP in the industry, even transcending the gaming industry. I think this may be due to the Switch’s limited capabilities. If I can be so optimistic to believe that Nintendo is actually envisioning their games in contemporary 4K visuals, putting a pause on their more lucrative projects, waiting for the right timing with a 4K Nintendo console.
Either way the Switch generation has been largely stagnant as far as Nintendo’s original content goes, and I believe it’s because the Switch was supposed to serve as a recovery period for the company. The success of the switch and growth of the company was not anticipated, and new leadership without Iwata has waited too long to make the next move. I don’t see the switch going past 5 years with Iwata still here. Without visionaries like him in charge, the businessman would be hesitant to change something so profitable.

No, we await good games to buy.

Unsurprising. There hasn’t been a tentpole game this year yet and while I personally am guaranteed to buy, play, and enjoy Echoes of Wisdom and Brothership, those are not system sellers either. 2023 had games that made people need to buy a Switch.

A price drop on NSO+EP would go a loooong way

As long as the next switch has Mobapad HD level of controllers, I’m good.

I know I’m still supporting because I just bought paper Mario TTYD and doing a first ever playthrough, I’m loving it. I’m also sure I’ll be picking up that new Mario and Luigi game towards the end of the year as well. I know it’s not much but it’ll give them something before the new console is out!

Maybe not tell everyone you’re going to make a new console and give 0 details. People aren’t buying Switches because they think something new is on the horizon, but actually have no idea how far away it is.

Why is Nintendo taking so long to release new console ? Longest period in recent history. . Everyone knows coming

Switch did amazing. But I’ve been ready for a new console for a while now. Time to put my 7+ year old launch console to rest

Makes sense, there aren’t any compelling games the average player is waiting on anymore, and not a peep about the next thing, so we’re in a Nintendo black hole this year, like 2016 all over again. Which is not a good year to repeat.

I’m kinda glad there’s a new generation of investors getting into Nintendo.
Most of them seem to be enthusiasts of Nintendo’s IP or grew up with them and wants to see them succeed and are perhaps more willing to allow them time (read: additional financial quarters) to make things right, bring a new game out, or release a new console compared to boomer investors that maybe always demanded constant profit and didn’t care about the quality and artistry of Nintendo’s work.

Even ignoring the pending new console, most people who’ve wanted a Switch will have bought one. And if they want but haven’t bought already, it’s probably because they are tight on cash.
If Nintendo wants to pump up sales for the consoles, they’ll need a price drop or to offer free games.
I think the Switch Lite will get a big price drop (or free games) down to at most $150, and maybe all the way to $99 ahead of or shortly after the Switch 2 comes out. The Switch 2 is the upgrade for the whole family or for serious gamers, but you can have an indie machine (the lite) or cheaper devices for your kids.
Either way, Nintendo enjoyed a long, healthy run with the Switch. I look forward to the next gen.

Was about to come post this lol.
I think that news outlets don’t seem to understand that Nintendo as a whole doesn’t tend to care much about momentary slides in profit or stock prices. They’re more interested in innovation. They understand that if you have a great product, then growth happens naturally.
