Okay, so, DUH. We’ve known this for weeks now. The financial guidance on Nintendo’s latest financial report showed no income for the Switch 2 in the current fiscal year. That’s why their stock is not melting down to this “reveal” today.

It’s pretty frustrating to not know anything about Switch 2 and still get all this “information.” I’m pretty sure I’ll get the Switch 2 as soon as it releases. That said, I have a bunch of games that are on my to buy list, but I also don’t want to buy anything that won’t transfer at this point or that I can get with better specs on Switch 2. I fully understand them wanting to keep people buying Switch games, but I feel bad for the people who buy a Switch today not knowing there’s a new one (probably for a similar price point) releasing in under a year with no information available.

I get that patience is watering thing for the Switch 2 and the lack of communication from Nintendo is a part of that, but I’d rather them take their time and get it right the first time while they have the resources to do so than to rush the hardware.
If they release it right now, but we have drifting joycons again and we have to wait until Holiday 2025 until we have our second or third major game release, what’s the point?
I don’t want a repeat of the 3DS launch year, personally.

holiday 2024 bundles will push the Switch sales to the top selling console of all time. then in february or march of 2025 they’ll announce a new console for fall of 2025. this thing was never getting announced this year

Why doesn’t Nintendo just reveal everything between now and Sept? We don’t know a single release date for a game next year. (Donkey Kong doesn’t count that’s a port of a port of a Wii game). All games Nintendo haven’t shown that comes out next year will be switch 2 games (what could they possibly have that won’t benefit from being kept for switch 2?). It won’t hurt software sales for games out this year because people who want the new games are already planning on getting them. The only thing it could hurt is switch 1 sales which are already tanking because everyone who wants a switch already got one during the 8 whole years it’s been out.

I know this is the switch sub so I won’t get many friends here but as a long time switch lover I was fed up with waiting without proper notice and bought a steamdeck this week. I know about the decisions regarding currency fluctuations etc. but I wonder if they underestimate the handheld competition, people willing to „switch“ to steamdeck and other competitors as the switches successor stays missing.
I know there will be more then enough people getting a switch2 but still I am thinking they are losing some money that way.

I don’t mind Switch 2, but I would like to have official confirmation that digital or physical Switch 1 games will be compatible with the next platform, and I think this is extremely important for the consumer. Especially now that we’re starting to approach the end of the year where people tend to buy more games.
I’m not going to buy anything without knowing first whether my games will be playable in the future if I retire my Switch, which is already on its last legs with drifting joycons and dying battery…
