Nintendo

Was Nintendo founded on October 11, 1887 (not September 23, 1889)?

Well, it's been discovered that the first mention of Nintendo in the US was on October 8, 1955 in an article in the New York Times that reported on a Japanese trademark. This issue mentions that Nintendo had been using its trademark (the Marufuku logo) since 1887.

A 1955 book by the US Patent Office mentions the filing of the Nintendo trademark on February 2, 1954, and confirms that Nintendo has been using its Marufuku logo since October 11, 1887. And since a similar logo to the Marufuku appeared near the end of the Edo period, it must have been used by Fusajiro Yamauchi's father before Nintendo was founded (and the "fuku" character most likely comes from Fusajiro's birth surname Fukui, and a kanji in a simple geometric shape has been common since the Edo period). The fact that the Marufuku logo was used since October 11, 1887 disproves the fact that Nintendo was founded on September 23, 1889.
