Can someone ELI5 what source code is and what leaking it means? I’ve always wondered.

If it’s real, I’m hoping it contains prototype versions and beta footage and cut content and things like that. That stuff’s always so fascinating to see.
EDIT: I’m not sure if they’re legitimate, but there do seem to be some leaked beta sprites from a handful of Pokemon. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to link them here so I’m going to play it safe. You can easily find them through Google Search anyway.
One of the sprites looks like a beta version of Wash Rotom. It seems that they originally based it off of a washing machine that has the lid on the top, which I believe is relatively common over in Japan. I guess they must’ve realized at some point that most washing machines in other countries have the lid on the front, and changed the design accordingly. That’s neat!
Ounces huh? So Nintendo believes in the imperial measurement system. Interesting

Ooo, maybe we could get digital 3DS ports of these titles that use the onboard infrared sensors to transmit data instead of relying on infrared cartridges. That would be amazing.
