Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto “very much” regretted making Super Mario Sunshine so hard as it should be something that even “Grandma and Grandpa” can pick up and play

I’ll forgive you, Shiggy. Just remake it with all the cut content and bug fixes, and we’ll be even.

Oh yeah that’s so horrible, if only you could give it a spiritual successor with Odyssey 2 👀

I don’t think Sunshine was that difficult besides the blue coins.
Ttm-o
I don’t know why but I adore and love Mario Sunshine. Sure I can’t get all the little coins but the overall gameplay was top notched for me. lol
InvestigatorUnfair
I’m gonna be honest, I never got people saying Sunshine was a really hard game
Like, I get the physics are wack but I managed to beat the game with minimal to no problems. It’s 100% that’s annoying, but that goes for like, 99% of 3D Mario games.

I thought it was a great successor to SM64. Delfino Plaza alone is one of my favorite things about Mario series alone. The mechanics were frustrating and it had a higher level of difficulty in hindsight but It wasn’t inherently hard, just a higher learning curve than previous entry’s. Also, believe it or not it did pave the way for Galaxy AND Oddessey

idk middle school me loved that game and even went so far as to get that damn shine in the warp pipe after the boat ride you need to take yoshi to.
Most of the game is pretty doable but there are many challenges you don’t necessarily need to complete that are very hard.

One of the most discouraging parts of Sunshine is that the game forces you to collect pretty much all the shrine sprites if you want to get to the ending. It’s not like Mario 64 where you can pick and choose the ones you’re able to get to and ignore the harder ones if you don’t want to.

Thank god he didnt think this way back in 2002 otherwise he would have screwed up the game

Damn I want Mario to get harder not easier lol
WrongSaladBitch
I will never understand anyone that says that game is hard or Mario is hard to control. He’s so snappy it’s acfually one of my favorite Mario’s to control.
His flip when you flick the stick back is basically instant. I love that.
KNIGHTFALLx
This game is hard because it’s unpolished. 6 months more work to clean up the frustration and it could’ve been a gem.

Super Mario Sunshine is one of the only few Mario games I play regularly. Always hoped for a sequel.
Particular_Minute_67
I love sunshine.
MyMouthisCancerous
Sunshine was perfectly fine just playing it start to finish on first go. It was all the post-game stuff like getting the red and blue coins or the additional Shine Sprites around Delfino Plaza itself that artifically inflated the difficulty of the entire game
naynaythewonderhorse
The worst thing about the game is the physics engine. Mario himself controls GREAT! Honestly, probably the best. But, sometimes his interactions with the world feel like he’s standing on a glass platform that’s cracking about to break. Other times it feels just a TINY bit off.

I love Sunshine, i think it gets over-critisized

Yeah? Well… My mom is a grandma and this is her favorite Mario game. She’s older than he is.

Sunshine’s difficult parts are mainly the result of bizarreness and jank. Most of the game has exceptionally strange design about it compared to other Mario titles. Bit odd he singled out the Fluddless levels when they were largely fine.
Rocant13
I loved this game

And him making all of their games so easy and handholdy is what’s making me not want to play their new stuff anymore
ghostpicnic
Is it just me or is this game not even that hard? It’s maybe a little less fair than the other 3D Marios, but I had no trouble beating it as an 8 year old.

This is why I’m struggling having fun playing Nintendo. Everything is way too easy. Lots of games baby you through the whole thing. I can’t even remember the last time I found a Nintendo game challenging even slightly.
Great console for kids new gamers and grandma and grandpa. But not the best console for REAL gamers.

Mario Sunshine is one of my favorite games in the franchise.

But… that’s why it’s so good

the thing is i love super mario sunshine. the difficulty was higher than most mario games but im one of the weirdos who loved the challenge of it
Numerous-Result8042
I couldn’t play Galaxy, or any of the ones after because they weren’t hard enough…

I remember the only hard parts were the optional platforming challenge levels where FLUDD is taken away. Those were my favorite parts of the whole game. Pure platforming goodness.
Blackbird907
My favorite Mario game. I have beaten it more times than I can count.
