Fake Switch Pro Controller bought on eBay 2024

I bought a switch pro controller on eBay which a business-registered seller offered a price slightly cheaper than the average retail price in my country.

I thought that it would be a genuine one but came to disappointment when I unboxed it. Especially that it cannot be updated and I am stuck at 0% update progress proves this is a fake product.

The seller offered a half price refund and I decided to go with it to save me from further hassle.

Here are what I found in a check and feel test with Youtube videos and online articles.

  1. Arrows on D-pad are misaligned towards to the centre.

  2. Blurry image on the side of box.

  3. Cable connector is not smooth.

  4. Fonts on controller are printed out of chassis.

  5. Letters A B X Y on buttons are thick rather than supposedly fit and thin.

  6. Purple ring surrounding home button. Easter egg message is very hard to see and it appears not the official one.

  7. Screws are very cheaply made.

From the photos it looks just like my original controller as far as I can tell

There’s an epidemic of fake stuff out there. Buying on ebay or from 3rd-party sellers on other online storefronts practically guarantees you’ll get scammed sometimes. It’s possible to get a fake from a reputable large established seller (they can get scammed on inventory too, though far less likely), but at least then you can get a full refund with no hassle.
