Thank you for this information 🫡

“Gold Points will no longer be earned for digital purchases on Nintendo eShop after 9:30 p.m. PDT on 3/24/2025.

Gold Points will no longer be earned on physical games that release after 3/24/2025. For physical games that released on or before 3/24/2025, Gold Points may still be earned by registering eligible titles within one year from the original release date of the game.

All earned Gold Points will continue to be valid and redeemable for 12 months after they are issued**.”

Just fell to my knees at gamestop

  4. Hatch-Match952531

They added them initially as a way to incentivize people to buy games digitally rather than physical media. Since digital is exceedingly popular now, they can take away the incentive without fear that people will go back to physical media. That being said…..Booo, I don’t like it.

  5. No_Establishment7368

Well, that sucks. It was always a cool idea to build up these points over time and cut some dollars off the next purchase.. but i guess corperate greed will come for any loose change eventually

  6. tastyjerk

This was a really nice bonus and it’s a bummer it’s being discontinued 🙁

  7. WheredMyPiggyGo

Today I got notification that my Netflix bill is going up and now this, everything is becoming more expensive and it sucks.

  8. Hot_Cheese650

Nintendo really hate their fucking fans.

  9. KingButter42

They’re goes away the ability to save up and get a free game 😔

  10. dekuweku

Best case: migraiton to Switch 2 which will have a different incentive system

    Worst case: cost cutting.

  11. Wafflezz08

Fell to my knees in the middle of Walmart

  12. Vayshen

That’s a pretty short time window. Kinda sudden but I guess enough people are buying digitally now to get rid of the incentive. Unfortunate though, I bought several indies on sale with coins.

  13. viewless25

Hopefully means theyre replacing them with something better for the Switch 2. still feels premature

  14. Radagast50

Boo. I only get like a $4 discount with my gold points smh.

  15. A-Centrifugal-Force

Wait what? This sucks. It was really nice being able to use these alongside cash back on the credit card, vouchers, and discounted eShop cards at Costco to save a ton on digital games.

  16. FlyingKangeroo

It sucks but honestly it really never lived up to Club Nintendo

  17. GrimmTrixX

Wow that’s odd. You already only get $0.60 when you buy a $60 game. Kind of odd to bother removing it. And I just added like 10 games that I had forgotten to redeem. I hope it’s more “you can’t earn any more” and not “we are gonna remove what you currently have.”

Edit: ok they’re valid for 12 months.

  18. CrazyKazzy

I buy all my games physically so…meh. Sucks for people buying digital though

  19. evilpanda8419

Guess I better buy a few more of my backup log while I still can. Make it count.

  20. throwawaycipe

This is such a bad change. I have tons of small indie games on my switch i’d never have tried if i didn’t have free gold points lying around.

  21. A-Centrifugal-Force

PSA if you don’t want to blow money on an actual game to use up your points before they expire: They work for DLC too. Worst case scenario you could snag some Smash Bros Mii fighter outfits for 75 cents a pop since I’m sure next to no one bought all 50 whatever of them (Sans and Cuphead outfits come with a song each too). If you do it before the March 24th deadline you’ll still get some gold points back on it too to potentially pick up one more thing.

  22. monterulez

I don’t care about your gold points. Only what matters are my gold points…oh

  23. Wolf873

Sighs…there’s no reason for them not to continue this other than greed, or in way of South Park; super greed. This was a terrific incentive to buy digital games, I was using it consistently and it helped to save a few dollars here and there. World is going down the crapper with rapidly increasing pace.

  24. ultimatt42

Wish I could still get free strategy guides with Nintendo Power renewal.

  25. ig88igloo6511

I wonder how successful those double Gold weekend deals were. I know I never fell for that.

  26. ScrantonDangler

There goes any future interaction I might have with the Switch Online app. The only reason I use it is to complete challenges for cold coins and get swag from the My Nintendo store.

  27. Oddish_Femboy

Well gold points were just a replacement for the Wii U’s moneyback system so I assume they’re gonna have something similar eventually. Still sad. I got Garfield Kart for 17 cents.

  28. justsomechewtle

Didn’t really use them much, but in the grand scheme of things, this leans negative for me. I’m just not quite sure what to make of it. Is it greed? Is it a badly communicated move to another system with Switch 2? Something else? As is, it only reads as “less for our loyal customers”.

As meager as it was, these were *some* kinda incentive to not just wait and buy used (since there are so many low price “I might want to try that” titles on eshop), but I guess they don’t have to worry about customer retention overall.

One silver lining (to me anyway) is it’s one less secondary currency to worry about.

  29. sakaki100dan

I hated them, because they expired so quickly, just 12 months? Never could get much use of them, because I am not a frequent buyer.

  30. Sometimes I buy an old yet unopened NSW game, and the gold points have naturally already expired. Since I’ve been focusing on acquiring & playing physical games, I’m not that bothered by it. However, this still sucks for players wanting to mix up their library of both digital & physical gaming media…

  31. BOOOH! BOOOOH!

As somebody who’s bought several (discounted) indie games using only these gold points, I’m not happy.

This was a good way to trigger people to try something new without really investing money into it.

So not happy with this at all. 😭

  32. senna98

They either have new systems ready for the Switch 2, or they want every Switch 2 game to be cut and dry $70. I’m leaning toward the latter

  33. ZodiaksEnd

welp i guess its back to getting shafted ijn buying any game because of that one penny your account does not have (everyones smallest currency amount ) more in effing tax

hopefully theres a replacement …… cause thats always been a peeve of mine when going to buy a game always getting shafted by the fucking tax cause most ppl cant just go out and get 20$ extra in eshop giftcard

  34. GammaPhonica

Club Nintendo rewards were downgraded to My Nintendo rewards. My Nintendo rewards were downgraded to gold points. Now gold points are going.

I wonder what absolutely useless reward program, if any, will replace it this time.
