Lucky skill: Stalwart
Ortega is my favorite Team Star boss so I’m glad that he finally made it in. I was worried they’d pull a Hassel and delay his inclusion, but thankfully it didn’t take long for the brat to join. He is just as annoying as I expected him to be and that’s exactly what I wanted from him ahaha.
His kit is weird. Like it’s very much tailored to be against Fire-type stages, which is an odd niche to give to a Fairy-type, but yes I get that it’s because of Dachsbun’s main-game ability. I think the most annoying thing about him is that he can only boost up to +2 crit before 4/5 (???). He also only has one notable debuff in Attack from his B Move, though that does make him a good complement to the many Fairy-types who debuff Sp Atk.
His anti-Fire kit means he very obviously counters Entei, and he even has both Flameproof and Escape Artist on his grid. I ran Stalwart since he also has Unbending on his grid, and I was surprised that his gauge wasn’t much of an issue even with the lack of speed buffs.
While he’s a drain tank, which are historically very good for LA solos, I don’t think he’s reaching the same heights as the others.

I just don’t get why they made yet another Paldea Fairy support, much less yet another support with Paldea Solidarity. I would’ve preferred if each Team Star member had their own unique role- Giacomo as Strike, Mela as Sprint, Atticus as Field, Eri as Support, and Ortega as Tech. Would’ve actually made them a more balanced team.
