If you remember last year's video from YouTuber Nerrel titled Recompilation: An Incredible New Way to Keep N64 Games Alive, a techique called static recompilation offers a really exciting way to play old games on new platforms (like a PC) while taking advantage of their advantages (high refresh rates, variable resolutions, mods, etc). It's not emulating a console, but rather translating a game's original code into new native code. The creator of N64 Recompiled debuted his implementation of this technique last year with Majora's Mask, and has spent the last year building up a sophisticated modding framework for N64 recompilations that is nearly finished. As he talks about in this interview, it's coming soon, along with the announcements of several other in-the-works recompilations!
