At first the redesign was jarring, but honestly now that I’ve stared at him for a while I think I’m slowly starting to find him endearing.
Gonna miss his Rare era design tho, an absolute icon.

I have two thoughts.
1. This looks like Red Faction: guerilla levels of destruction which is amazing.
2. I kept waiting for Diddy Kong to appear. It feels weird to have a mainline DK game where Diddy isn’t here at all.

Something about hearing the “Ohhh banana!” tickles the brain.

Looks great! Absolutely loved DK64. My only concern is a big part of my love for that game was the different characters and so far this looks to be just DK. Still cool, but hoping for a cast.

I don’t like the pants but I’m sure the new DK design will grow on me after a while.
I haven’t played Banjo Kazooie but from what I’ve seen of it this looks more similar to it than to any other DK game, even DK64. It’s weird how this doesn’t seem to bring back much of DK’s established aesthetic or cast, then again neither did Jungle Beat and I liked it despite that, so if the gameplay’s good it’s fine I guess.

The game looks completely washed clean of Rare. No sign of any Rare-created Kongs (not even DIDDY) or K. Rool and the Kremlings. DK himself looks different and the purple pet rock on his back looks to be a brand new companion character.

With the focus on mines, gold, and gems, this felt like it would have been a better Wario World game than DK game. Wario just isn’t as big of a pull as DK.
