Every new console launch is the biggest in history.
We’re a consumerist culture.

“Negative gamer backlash” being as useless as ever I see.
The market is evidently totally fine with $80 games.

Only thing stopping these new consoles from being the best launch in history is themselves.
If they make enough of them then people will buy them.
Amazing concept.

But reddit told me it’d barely sell?
linkling1039
But youtubers did 382727 videos saying it would be a flop!
ColdFusion363
Hmmm. But all those Youtube videos keeps telling me that the Nintendo Switch 2’s price is the problem!
Along with the many negative comments on YouTube and Instagram who threatens to get the Steam Deck.
Whisky-Gentleman
But what about those 50 online petitions I signed?

But the youtubers are telling me its biggest dissaster since the Wii U?
RockHardKink
Local GameStop still has stock, still haven’t bought it. Reddit is just the minority. We got like a couple million people when Nintendo has well over hundreds of millions of fans.

I believe it will have a strong launch, but I’m more curious how its first year will go. A strong start doesn’t necessarily mean a strong finish.

The moment I played SMB on Famicom when I was 2 it was game over for me. Nintendo is mana from heaven!
ChrlsPC
But but the price… the internet told me this was going to be Wiiu 2 😔
Clearly the prices aren’t putting people off as most assumed they would.
For me, I think it’s a crazy price for games but aside from Mariokart world I can’t see myself buying any new. I have a whole catalogue of old switch games to play until I can find switch 2 games cheaper on vinted or something. Combined with the fact that I’ve sold my OG switch the prices aren’t exactly gonna rock the boat. I’d imagine some people are in the same situation as me.
Historically, Nintendo doesn’t drop prices. But in saying that, I can’t remember the last time I ever paid full price for a switch game. At least here in the UK, retailer price wars for new physical releases soon see drops anyways.

Nuh uh. Some guys on Facebook keep saying it will be a bigger flop than the Wii U.

The launch was never in doubt. Wii and Switch were all time selling consoles because of legs and casual consumers.
serenade1
Well, the “boycotts” worked just as efficiently as the “Pokemon boycotts”
GoodOlSticks
But reddit told me $499 USD was way too much for a brand new video games console bundled with a popular AAA game….
Almost like $450 is actually a pretty normal console launch price and a $20 increase in the cost of software after 15 years really isn’t that scary for consumers who aren’t busy playing victim olympics online.
Either way I don’t really care beyond the thing having a big enough install base to get some great games made for it, just funny to see the real world shake out contrary to what reddit thought again

“Someone in the world thinks next big thing could be biggest thing. Others say there’s a chance it won’t. Some even believe it won’t be a big thing! For more useless news, continue to read other worthless opinions here!”
I like how the vocal minority are blaming people here because they don’t understand Reddit never had any choice or power in this matter.

I was gonna write a funny ha-ha but I don’t really want to anymore.
I may not get a Switch 2 right away but I might get the controller or joy cons to play on my PC.

The launch sales won’t be the indicator of final success.
Early adopters and enthusiasts value the console much higher than every day occasional gamers. If we’re in one of those categories (and thus on this subreddit), we see huge value and it’s a no-brainer.
It’s the 15-25 million consoles per year in years 2-5 that the Switch-1 did that will be difficult to match if the price is an issue.
I suspect we’ll see less 2-3 console households.
As world economies cool, less disposable income will likely mean less entertainment purchases, particularly large ones.
All that being said, I don’t think it needs to match Switch-1 total sales to be a success. 100 Million consoles would still be a huge success.

I’m not a big gamer anymore. Got kids and no time. But I’ve loved the og switch, still got my day 1 purchase.
The price of the switch 2 is fine. I could pick that up easy.
But I ain’t paying them game prices. Its sad cos I’ve had every Nintendo since the NES. But I’ve been priced out for now.
Probs get it when the switch 3 comes out lol
jnighy
but they told me would be the new Wii U
Chrischris40
I think buying consoles on launch day is dumb tbh. I prefer waiting a few months for all the bugs to be ironed out
Pizzaplanet420
Idk what videos you guys watch but everything I’ve seen has been positive about the Switch 2. Outside of the price and that’s mostly just a result of public opinion surrounding it.
Which is likely why Nintendo increased the price on accessories on the consoles instead of the console.
true_exalt
The Wii U didn’t have anyone talking about it 😂. The Switch 2 will at least be more popular than it simply because of all the complainers. Free marketing.
NoNSFW_Workaccount
I hope they have enough consoles to sell through to make that the case.
Traitor_To_Heaven
You mean to tell me the successor to the only current console that’s constantly coming out with great new games that are also 100% exclusive is going to do well?? No way

But but Nintendo bad price to high

Whats the overlap between these clowns and the ones saying the next pokemon game will fail?
QF_Dan
not surprising at all
Pale_Initiative2844
So they really weren’t lying about producing a lot of consoles. I’m starting to believe the rumor that the switch 2 got delayed a year because they wanted to make a lot of stock
lousupremacy
if this becomes true, this would be example #172839929 that the internet isn’t real life. and algorithms only feed people what they want to hear
BlissfulAurora
I mean, I don’t know. Where do boycotts start if it’s not with YouTube videos, posts, etc? Doesn’t mean they’ll take off. Doesn’t mean they didn’t have genuine intention behind it.
Love Nintendo, but everyone singlehandledly confirmed games to be $80+ for the future, along with consoles being around this price as the norm.

The accessories cost too much wahhh

FOMO marketing. There is a reason they feel the need to do this.
