What if you’re getting a Switch 2 but still want to keep your Switch 1 so you can play both?
Goodbye18000
Easy way? Impossible, the internet says everything about the Switch 2 is too confusing and too expensive and shouldn’t be supported. Are we sure Nintendo didn’t pay them for this article?
Merlin4421
If only I could get a switch 2.
Dazzling-Cabinet6264
Well, this sucks for people that are already traded in their system at GameStop last week
Hopefully all of the important Game data that I need will be downloaded
CarlosFer2201
This would have been nice to know weeks ago. The local game store chain had a promo for a S2 pre-order with a guaranteed €200 off by giving them a Switch Oled. I did not take it because I would need both consoles at the same time to transfer the data.
Steef-1995
I appreciate it but my S2 will start with a clean slate. I have a buttload of screenshots and videos, games that I don’t play anymore, etc. I just need my cloudsaves and that’s it for me.
AlixSparrow
I never trade in my consoles I have every console I ever owned still
austine567
That’s cool and all but maybe they should just have all their games use the cloud save feature….
EeveesGalore
Expiration of a transfer uploaded to the cloud is one year, more generous than normal cloud saves.

Im fine with waiting. First generation of consoles can be buggy. I’ll let others play test them, then buy the second or third wave of releases.
Maybe early second wave, since I don’t know how tariffs will effect the price if I wait too long.
Edit: Not sure why I’m being downvoted.

This is rather forward thinking for Nintendo, I’m kinda shocked that they would think about this situation and actually spend time coding a solution.
That said, while all the first party games should work, we don’t yet know for sure which third party games will work 100% on Switch 2, so I’d at least hang on to the Switch 1 till you know all your favorite games play fully. Nintendos list seems to indicate they’ve made sure a lot of games _start_, but they haven’t confirmed they will play all the way through without issues.

Do local saves that don’t go into the cloud like all the pokemon games saves go into the server? Bc it’s not clear if local saves or just cloud saves go into the server. I’m prob just going to wait till I get my switch 2 home to transfer just in case.
Chubbygator847
I mean i dont plan on upgrading until Nintendo releases a Switch 2 Lite
comengetitrmm
Unless I’m misreading the article is this saying it wipes/factory settings on your original switch? Bc for people like me who are keeping their switch, that’s a no go..I presume there is a way to do it without wiping the switch?
SilentFormal6048
Sell your old console? What is this heresy you speak?
ItsjustCal
I already sold men before this was announced smh
UChess
I already sold mine 😭
empathetical
I don’t think I could sell my switch for a small discount on a new one. It’s a great portable
Hairy-Mixture3861
lol no thanks. Especially with the increase in tariffs about to hit. Plus why? Not much difference between the two
newaru2
There’s no way I’m trading or selling my Zelda OLED.
fuzzynavel34
Do you have to have NSO to do this?
wynters387
Mine is missing the vent grate so I doubt I’d get much for it
GuaranteeExternal985
Y’all better get it early or else this YouTuber will smash them all
I appreciate the effort but I’m not trusting my animal crossing island on potentially not getting it on launch

This article is **NOT ABOUT TRADING YOUR SWITCH1 TO NINTENDO FOR A SWITCH2**
It is simply talking about how Nintendo put out a piece of software to allow you to transfer Switch1 save file data to a Switch2.
Dracogame
I don’t see how they’re trying to warp it in something positive.
Nintendo doesn’t want you to share account. Not even within the same family. If you want to use a Switch 2, the Switch 1 has to go. Forget about cloud saving between the two console. Forget about letting your kid play with your library on your own switch.
Then again, the joycon drift alone is pretty much killing any possibility that current gen Switch will get to grow old next to my older Nintendo consoles.

PcGuide is garbage. Click bait title.

They had months to do this. I already wiped my Switch and got it packed up.
mideon2000
Why can’t this multi billion dollar company streamline things instead of always making things more complicated than it needs to be?
When i got my series x i simply signed in to my account on my initial setup and chose which games to install from my library and was done. My whole library was there as well as my saves.
My ps5 was a similar experience too.
They always got to do something quirky.
b3anz129
the idea of a nintendo gamer trading their old consoles away lol
BajaBlastMtDew
Came out right after I traded mine in. How is this different than just having game saves on the cloud and then I just sign into my account on the Switch 2 then re download the games?
krazygreekguy
So they can force as many people into their corporate digital dystopia where you own nothing. Lmao these corporations just can’t help themselves
Mykennel
If I’m keeping my Switch 1, can I continue playing my games on either the Switch 1 or Switch 2? I want my kids to be able to continue using the Switch 1. This is confusing with all these virtual game card things…
Wonderful-Today6787
Want to sell mine third party, was gonna wait but now I might sell it before hand to be more financially stable when that 900$ charge hits my card. I love my Zelda OLED to bits, and I have skyward sword controllers, but I just can’t justify the switch 2 cost without selling it. Plus I’m a sucker for cool things so when we eventually get donkey Kong or Mario or smt themed controllers for the switch 2 I’ll be at it 🙂
