Has Level-5 ever made a good decision regarding this game? Multiple delays, price increase, showing footage that runs terrible. It’s like they want it to fail so badly.

I was so hyped for it…

Not even out yet and somehow this game is already catching Ls

  3. Didn’t realise it was potentially happening in the first place. I’ll be grabbing a copy in Japan while I’m here though.

Annoyed because I had the physical pre-ordered from ShopTo for £35. Being digital only it is now £50 on eShop. Will now wait for a sale on the Switch 2 version in the future when it arrives.

Extremely disappointing. I loved the first game.

Man, Level-5 is so fucking dead. The Ni No Kuni mobile game alone can’t jeep this company afloat. Such a shame, they make fantastic, unique games, but everything else regarding this company is running terribly.

Hopefully their games will at least come out, though I fear DecaPolice might not make it.

We’re at the point that Hino-san needs to step down from his position within Level-5. Consistent missteps since even the Switch 1’s early life cycle, the withdrawal of their international office(s) in the US, announcing a game at the largest convention in the US which is followed by some many thousands of fans in person and online only to say nothing more on the matter even after resurfacing with offer of international support several years ago…

It feels like things have only gotten worse after the Yokai Watch/Snack World fad back in the 3DS days and Level-5 bit off way more than they could do trying to make everything a cross-media franchise since then. I’m still salty the West never got Yokai Watch 4 (which looked so much more fun even compared to the original titles) after being announced for international release, or ports to the Switch of even just the first game. For that alone, I wish they could have been held accountable in some fashion. Don’t get me started on the constant delays with current projects, the weird new IP similar to Yokai Watch they’re trying to get off the ground, or my long awaited DecaPolice game 😩

Was thinking about getting this game, was checking for a physical version. Might get when it on sale.

I feel like all the news about this game has exclusively made it lamer for switch fans which is crazy considering it was an exclusive at one point. Level 5 really fumbled the version that probably would have sold the best.

Soo but the Japanese physical can be played in English right?

  11. What a rollercoaster, what the heck is happening over at Level-5?

  12. Juliko1993

Old news. The Japanese physical version has English according to the eShop and Play-Asia, so no loss for anyone who plans to get that or has a Japanese eShop account.

Not since Konami went full pachinko have I seen such a sad decline for a major gaming company. Worse than Ubisoft now (well probably not morally worse), worse than Nintendo in late era Wii U, worse than Capcom when they cancelled every Megaman in the middle of their failed “pander to the west” era.

Maybe if they didn’t have Layton and Yokai Watch it would just be a niche Japanese gaming company having fallen off, but those two series alone makes their failings so much more embarrassing, since I don’t know where they spent all their money in that case. But clearly it is not going into putting out successful game releases. What are they doing?

Edit: Actually what this reminds me most of is Platinum the past few years, just concerning signs all around.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Level-5 are run by the biggest muppets. Just stupid decisions one after another. Making everything multimedia projects, constant delays, making games PlayStation exclusive when 99% of their playerbase was on Nintendo consoles, fantasy life 2 being a mobile game, completely neglecting Layton and not even ports of the DS games, etc. I seriously don’t know how Hino hasn’t been kicked out of the company.

If I wasn’t getting it from Japan directly, I wouldn’t have bothered to be honest. Probably the last game for switch I’m getting for a long while after the last few months.

  16. NyarumiYukimitsu

Way beyond the fifth level of disappointment at this point

  17. OkamiTakahashi

That’s a big yikes between this and the death of Yokai Watch in the west

  18. The first one is one of my favourite 3DS games, and I dreamed of a sequel for basically an entire decade. But now that it’s almost here I’m just losing faith in every new thing I see. Been catching Ls ever since it was announced smh

  19. Zangetsukaiba

The new Layton game better have a physical release

  20. LunarWingCloud

Level 5 is slowly falling off and it’s really unfortunate. They were at the top of the world from their first game Dark Cloud all the way till the early Yo-Kai Watch titles and then they slipped down the slope

  21. NormalCake6999

With no physical release this game will fail in Europe, where physical on console still continues to reign supreme (75-80% of switch games sold in Europe are physical)

  22. I believe this happened when Nintendo stopped publishing it / it went multiplat… It’s unfortunate – Level-5 has been making a lot of odd choices lately, unfortunately

  23. KjSuperstar08

Guess I’ll be importing, Level 5 has been taking many Ls and I don’t see them stopping

  24. Live_Honey_8279

What a coincidence, my purchase has been cancelled too

  25. Been saying this for years but Level-5 is such an extremely frustrating company. So much talent wasted.

  26. N64Andysaurus92

Shame. Was looking forward to it. You’ve lost a sale.

  27. eatdogs49

I’m planning on getting the Megaton Musashi game for Switch eventually once it gets a good discount. It’s highly recommended by some game YouTubers I trust.

  28. I keep thinking Microsoft was the biggest bungler of the last few years but then I remember Level-5.

  29. Shame. I know a lot of people give them shit, but at the end of the day, I genuinely love most of the games they put out. They have such charm, are funny, have lovely art style, etc.

Please let Layton and the New World of Steam survive whatever Level 5 is going through right now!
