Monolith Soft really does just seem to be Nintendo’s go-to when they need help with an open world. Which is fine — *XC1* and *XCX* have really great open worlds, and they definitely helped breathe life into Hyrule for *BotW*/*TotK*.

Monolith is the most OP game studio of all time, probably the best investment Nintendo has ever made.

Nintendo struck gold with Monolith Soft.

I wonder what “environments” means here, given the whole “open world racing” nature. Like presumably they didn’t make the tracks, but did they make the connecting spaces? Just the skyboxes? Etc.
Hopefully we get a clearer translation / interview at some point. Learning that they did work on the topography for BOTW was cool because you could really see the throughline for how they design their worlds, the similarities between how Xenoblade X and BOTW two years later make you walk through a landscape were really starkly different from other open world games at the time

In the time between BotW and TotK releasing, Monolith Soft was able to release/remake the entire mainline Xenoblade trilogy for the Switch with new content added to each game, and assisted with developing several other Nintendo games… including BotW and TotK…

Arguably the most valuable and efficient purchase of a video game dev in recent years.

Monolith Soft continuing to compete with FromSoft for being the best studio in the industry. Must be the Soft. More studios need a Soft at the end.

In the beginning it was thought that Nintendo saved Monolith Studio by buying them out and giving them free reign on making whatever games they want to make.
Boy has this purchase paid off big time. Probably one of Nintendo best studio. What’s great about them is they don’t need hand holding to make good games.
